A game to get it right, but man, AP was very short-handed. Surprised Boals kept the starters in as late as he did. Brutal last 10 minutes of basketball.

For all of the criticism, PAV continues to put up numbers and good to see his 3 point shot back. Not much more to say until MAC season rolls around.
What's with the criticism of PAV? I don't get it.
The early returns were that he wasn't a pass-first PG and he turned the ball over too much, even though he was scoring a lot. He has basically improved in every single area.

Through his first 11 games as a Bobcat, he has four double-doubles with pts/assts. That's stuff that doesn't happen often for this team.

Jaylin Hunter - never had a double figure assist game at Ohio

Mark Sears - never had a double figure assist game at Ohio

Jason Preston - Had four double-double assist games in the first nine games of 2019-20, ended up with six on the year. Had three double-double assist games in 2020-21.

Jaaron Simmons - Had two double-double assist games in the first nine games of 2015-16, ended up with six on the year. Had four double-double assist games in 2016-17.

DJ Cooper - Had 20 double-double assist games in his Ohio career.

Another INSANE DJ stat I came across while doing this research:

There was a six game stretch in 2010-11 starting with the 43 point outing against St. Bonaventure where he absolutely went off in the scoring and assist department. He averaged 20.0 points, 10.8 assists, and 5.8 rebounds in a six game stretch. Ohio went 2-4 in those games. Just incredible.

I've liked most of what I've seen from PAV this year myself, but in fairness, I haven't been able to pay my normal type of attention thus far.

Coop...man was he fun to watch. I just watched the highlights from the 17 assist game against Marshall.

Check the Myrtle Beach post-game threads. A lot of criticism that I didn't understand. I said at the time this will be a fun topic to revisit in March. PAV is going to be just fine and will continue to get better.

His assist to turnover ratio is actually really good. 6 to 2.5

A better ratio than Jaylin Hunter had.

Coach Boals always seems to get his teams to play better as the season progresses. Hope they channel the football team’s juice as MAC play begins!

My main problem with Pav, is he's the worst defender on the team (both eye test and statistically) on a team whose Achilles heal, and one of the main contributing factors to our losses, has been our defense.

The best way to improve said defense might be to play the worst defensive player less if there's another option.

Since Myrtle, as the competition has softened, his offensive production has been much better. Before that his shooting % was bad (mid 30s), he wasn't making 3s (3 makes in 10 games before AP), he can't get his shot off in the paint against athletic bigs (too small) and thus had a lot of shots blocked or had turnovers. Plus, he'd have to score or assist on over 30 pts a night to make up for his D.

Recently his assists and ast:to have been really good and he's shooting much better. He needs to keep that up and then some.
