Not impressed with this team at all maybe it's just me but would any of these guys start for another MAC School?

Eh, Saul’s first year transitioning with Groce and Christian remains will easily be the worst.

But was Saul's team picked to win the MAC?

This is going to be really bad take in a few months.

They were picked second in the East and had three productive seniors including a guy who played regular season NBA games plus a guy who won conference POTY a year later. That team was horrific to watch.

The worst team was probably 2017-18. Even if they had been healthy consistently, I don't think I like that roster that much.

Being picked 2nd that year versus unanimous #1 pick this year (Boals obviously didn't pick us) is a big difference. I'll just say year to date we are awful.

Wait, wut?

We've played bad sure. But worst in a decade?

Torvik rankings over last 10 years:

24-25: #144 (3rd in MAC)
23-24: #143 (3rd in MAC)
22-23: #138 (5th in MAC)
21-22: #148 (4th in MAC)
20-21: #74 (2nd in MAC)
19-20: #149 (5th in MAC)
18-19: #193 (10th in MAC)
17-18: #178 (6th in MAC)
16-17: #96 (1st in MAC)
15-16: #125 (3rd in MAC)

So 4 teams in the last decade have actually been worse.

It's no difference whatsoever because preseason predictions are at best educated guesses made by people who would rather not bother with it and not earned on the court. They don't matter.

So, Coaches don't matter? Their predictions are based on "data" (i.e. prior season results, both team and individual players, as well as new players coming in). And you said, "coaches don't want to be bothered by it"? So, they don't care about the teams they will play in conference and the ones they need to beat to get an NCAA bid? Last, I'm 100% sure not a single coach in the MAC expected Ohio to regress and be 2-5 at this stage against "average" teams, at best.

Remember to win the MAC we don't have to be good we just have to be less bad than everyone else

In a 1 bid league that is now ranked in the bottom 1/3 of D1. This is accurate.

Good lord man.

Can we group these under the fire boals and rock bottom threads already started?

That way its easy to roast everyone when it's Feb and we're like 11-3 in the MAC?

I'm not going to weigh in on ranking this team as the worst since The Wilderness Campaign in the Hunter Era, but I will say I've lived long enough to know that preseason rankings in the MAC are frequently way off the mark. I hope that that is not the case this year, but the shaky start has not given me a great deal of confidence in this team. I hope that the Boals-will-have-them-ready-in-March mantra is correct.

Four of Ohio's losses are against teams in the Top 135 of KenPom and their other loss was on the road against a MVC squad predicted to finish 4th in their conference.

OU easily could've won against MTST and Texas State if a few bounces went their way. All of the crying over the Bobcats play early in the season has been overkill. They're still the 3rd highest KenPom team in the MAC at 160 and projected to go 11-7 in league play.

They're gonna be okay... Which I think several of us believe even if we're not screaming the loudest.

We will be fine in the MAC. It's completely ASS. Even as bad as we have played, we are still #160 in Ken Pom. There are some absolutely garbage teams in the MAC...we will be fine. Measuring stick will be Akron/Kent as usual and whether I like it or not - the performance in November will be a distant memory.

11-7 in the MAC would be a disappointment this season. 12-6 meh. I think with this roster and the state of the conference we should get to 13+ wins.

I agree some of the reaction may have been a bit much but there has definitely been a lot of frustration early.

We probably should have seen it coming though, right? Boals' teams usually start notoriously slow. We as fans just had higher ceiling and higher floor this season.

2019-20: Started 3-3 and entered MAC play 8-5

2020-21: Started 4-2, was 7-6 in mid-January before turning it on.

2021-22: Probably the one outlier where they started 9-2 heading into MAC play. Only losses to Kentucky and LSU.

2022-23: Started the season 1-3 and entered MAC play 8-5. Lost to Belmont, Detroit and Marshall, all games they probably should have won.

2023-24: Entered MAC Play at 6-6 with just a crap ton of close losses to Cleveland State, George Washington, YSU, Marshall, Austin Peay and Davidson. Sound familiar?

This is what I've been trying to point out. As frustrating as the start to this season has been, we have data that shows we typically recover after slow starts and go on to have good seasons.

The most annoying thing about right now is that this year was supposed to be different. We were supposed to be more polished and have a more complete season from start to finish. Obviously, that's not going to happen but every goal this team has is still in front of them.

I know the projections say 11-7 in conference play but I still believe they could be much better than that if they figure things out heading into January.

I'm too lazy to check but which of those years did all of the other MAC coaches pick us to win the MAC?
