Holy crap…..did you even watch the first two games of the season?
Watched the first two on TV and spent the last few days in Myrtle watching the games court side which, as you were able to observe watching on TV, were unobstructed and allowed view of the whole court. Now I'm not going to get into a back and forth on the kid, nor continually question him or drag him through the mud. Some posters did that last year with IJ and Wiz and these kids don't deserve that from us. So I'll leave it at this post:
He was constantly beat off the dribble and had difficulty beating his defender with the dribble. Someone said he was getting over an injury so maybe he was a step slow due to that – if not he will have struggles in the MAC that tends to have quick point guards (or Mitchell guards the point). The ball was getting stalled in his hands – too much dribbling – and his handle was not what one expects from a point guard – fumbled the ball a number of times especially going laterally to his right. As noted previously, he gets caught in the lane with no escape resorting to an up and under, a hot potato pass to a teammate, or straight turnover. I see his stats, but point guard also means possession guard and beyond the turnover line he also led to lost possessions through the excessive dribbling and forcing teammates into rushed shots or getting the ball out of position.
Elliot showed skills and will start to get time. Mitchell coming back will obviously get minutes reallocated, and, accordingly to folks associated with the program, will be getting minutes at the point as well. Hope some of my observations are him still getting acclimate to new teammates – pg is like qb – chemistry can take time - and/or he felt he had to do more with Mitchell out. We will see.
Rotations and playing time will continue to get refined prior to MAC play. I trust Boals to figure it out. Team seems to have good chemistry and getting the win Friday made for a much more fun day on Saturday of putt-putt and Calabash fish eating in Dirty Myrtle. 3.5 point favorite vs. Texas St – hopefully they can close out the tournament 2 and 1.
