How did the refs not T up Cisse on that pull up he did on the rim???

It was Illinois State without Reef and we got smoked too. Is this time of year to see what Evans can do before the MAC? To not play your prized recruit more than ONE MINUTE in non mop-up time? At some point the water carrying for Boals has to die down....this is ugly. We should be much better.

Hate to say it. That was a Saul second half tonight in Memphis. Boals still has plenty of time to figure it out for 3 nights in Cleveland.

I agree. There is something missing from this team, and I don’t think that it’s just Reff. The total is less than the sum of the parts. Lot’s of individual talent, but there’s very little chemistry. Our passing is just atrocious. All our players seem to be good guys and they seem to like each other, but they don’t play well as a team. And, that 72 percent from three wasn’t just their excellent shooting, at least some of it was what might be the D1’s worst three point defense. At this point, I’m not even sure this team will be a top four seed in Cleveland.

That was a painful one to watch. I still think there's a good team in there, but we just seem so undisciplined/unfocused right now. Whether it's defense (not moving your feet 1v1, letting the same passing pattern repeatedly lead to open 3s) or offense (getting into the paint and throwing up a prayer, lazy cross-court passes that lead to runouts), we're just not nearly as locked in as we need to be. Maybe all the pre-season accolades made us too comfortable?

It sucks missing Reef two games in a row (with what was apparently a minor knock but now, who knows?), but it's not like we were exactly world-beaters on defense before he went down. Over 50% from the field and from 3(!!) for our opponents is a shocking statistic.

Agree 100% that we need to see Evans more, especially when Clayton is struggling and especially when we're already down 15+.

On the bright side, despite his poor shooting I thought Pav had his best game as a Bobcat. More active on rebounding/defense, and his drive-and-dish game seemed much more natural/in-rhythm than the first 3 games. If he can follow the Jaylin Hunter trajectory I'll remain bullish on our chances.

Sorry guys and gals (if there are any), I don't agree with the general sentiment here. Losing games you should win and getting blown out (in the end) by Memphis are discouraging losses but most teams can’t hit 50% of their threes in warmup. We’re seeing some unconscious shooting but things generally revert to the mean over time. On the other hand I’m seeing more individual talent on our team than we’ve had in a long time. And they’re playing hard. If we’re still losing in a month you can say I’m full of crap. At this point I am not ready to dump on the coaching staff. In fact this team looks disciplined and well coached to me.

It really doesn’t justify looking this unprepared. Like I said, it’s how we’re losing. Like someone said, it’s a great collection of individual players but we’re not resembling a team.

This is a lot of bad defense and some bad luck. We could have made the active decision to give threes to all these players and would have at least a chance to not be surrendering that percentage.

13 for 18 from 3 is absolutely bonkers. 44 for 82 on the season is extremely bonkers. I understand we 100% contributed to that, but also think it can't possibly continue at that rate and could, in a weird way, be an indication of good things to come.

Clayton & Hadaway struggled and Memphis drained threes, yes aided by our poor perimeter defense again. That's really the whole story.

Is Ajay Sheldon really going to go 4 years as a bench player? I am not necessarily saying he should start over JP, nor am I saying he should've started over Hunter...but the guy is absolutely a D1 mid-major starter. He led the conference in 3 point shooting last year and won't be surprised if he does again this year. But he isn't just a 3 point shooter, he is an excellent ball handler and solid defender. It just doesn't seem right that he could be a 4 year bench player.

I understand the call for Evans but this does not surprise me. When we brought Searls in, I took that as Evans taking a back seat for 1 year. I agree Nicol just won't ever be a Bobcat regular...that just happens sometimes with a 13 man roster. The 9 guys who are playing all have a lot of talent, there isn't anyone in the group that I'm uncomfortable with out on the court.

It's been disappointing. As others said, in today's environment our roster should be very familiar with each other and that be an advantage early on. So "still gelling and figuring out their scheme" doesn't fly with me. But I fully believe better days are ahead. Hopefully that's in Myrtle Beach.
