Our old friend Olumide Adelodun back in the portal leaving D2 Winona State.

He appeared in 16 games, averaging 25.2 minutes, 13.6 pts/6.8 reb/0.9 ast.

He shot 39% from 3 and 82% from FT.

Maybe looking to jump back to low major D1?

I still think we should have worked harder to keep and develop this young man.

The women recently landed 5'10" senior guard Anyssa Jones originally of Westerville. She began at Ohio State and averaged 8.5 and 4 for Dayton last year. In Dayton's six-point loss in Athens last year, Jones started, went 0-7, scored 2 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 fouls in 20 minutes. Probably her worst game of the year. A Dayton fan said this about her: "Jones is a loss. She plays defense and can score. She is better slashing down the lane. She is also a good free throw shooter."

I don't think it was a matter of the staff working harder to keep and develop him. He was here for two years and clearly it wasn't there in practice. He got some chances in games his second year and I didn't see anything that stood out. It appears he wasn't D-One material to begin with. It was a swing and miss.

Ike has entered the portal. One these 6'7 wings has to be incoming, right? I felt like Ike was starting to get more comfortable at the end. Found a sweet spot from 3.

I wrote back in like Nov that he didn't come here to play C or 4th seat on the bench.

Have to imagine he thought he'd come here and be Emoni Bates or something. Rather he's stuck playing 4/5. Best case he's the 5th shooting option on a team full of small guards.

Hate, hate, hate the ability to play for three schools in a span of two years, but it is what it is. Wish he'd stay and develop a little, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up back at like a George Washington, VCU.

This seems more like trimming fat than anything. I don't see the issue either. He wasn't a good fit and barely saw the court when it mattered.

Not surprising about Ike. Given who we're targeting in the portal, it's clear Baols wasn't happy with Ike's performance.

I don't want to lose ANY players. Team building and continuity still matter to me. It's not the way of the world I know but Boals has done a pretty good job minimizing mercenaries and defectors.

As for Ike specifically he has size/length that we desperately need and showed he could be a good shooter from 3 as the season progressed.

Who needs a 6'6 shooter with length that was a 5 star recruit?

He likely wanted more playing time. It is what it is.

Time to add a 3 and D wing back to the need list.

Not Boals. For some reason, people talk about the transfer portal like players make their decisions in a vacuum.

I'd be shocked if Boals didn't encourage Cornish to leave by making it very clear he was recruiting wings from the portal and that Cornish didn't have a path to being a meaningful contributor.

In the biggest game of the season, Cornish played 0 minutes. All you need to know about how Boals thought of him.

Some of the most similar small forwards in the portal right now:

Kennard Davis - Southern Illinois 6-6/205
Devon Ellis - Maryland Eastern Shore 6-6/210
Elijah Gray - Fordham - 6-7/215
Raekwon Horton - JMU - 6-6/210

And lots lots more.

I was thinking more Maryland Baltimore County or Towson State. He never played defense and really only got some minutes because AJ Brown got hurt. This was a swing and a miss. Glad it was only one year and not two years like The Whiz.

I suspect you're not gonna get the pushback for saying this that I did 5 games into the season.

But I agree completely. The portal let's you make mistakes one year mistakes. Glad we're moving on.

You guys realize all 13 guys aren't going to play 20 minutes and score double figures right? That doesn't make them busts, nor unworthy of a roster spot.

Depth and experience are things.

If that's the bar, you might as well swap 10 of the 13 spots every year. Literally nobody wants that - least of all Coach Boals (thankfully).

You're not wrong, but sometimes continuity and culture don't play well together. One gets sacrificed for the other.

We don't have enough top end talent. The MAC will be worse next year, somehow, but with Hunter leaving we've got a lot of production to replace. The more swings at that the better, which is why I'm not disappointed to see Wiz and Cornish move on. Both were low ceiling depth guys. All well and good, but this roster needs more upside.

Wiz is in the portal also?

Not that I'm crying, but we still need these experienced depth guys. Cornish wasn't POY, but he's still young and developing. And he's tall. Huge plus around here. I believe he could've been the main guy here as a senior had he stayed. Sad to see him go. We hardly knew ya, kid.

With that said, we CANNOT lose Elmore or AJB or I'll be suiting up.

I remember you saying that early. I wanted to see how the entire year played out, but yes, give you credit for going on record early.

I know people hate quick turnover, but in the world of college hoops today with portal, if a portal guy doesn't pan out you can’t let them suck up roster spots for multiple years. Unfortunately, we suffered with The Whiz for two years and it cost us dearly. We can't continue to make these mistakes, so I'm glad to see Ike moving on. Hopefully he finds success at Maryland-Baltimore County or Towson.

I'd rather keep Cornish than lose him and try to fill the spot. But I'm also not super upset about it. My goal going in was to keep that core group of Clayton and the 4 sophomores together and it appears we will achieve that.

Has anyone gotten any confirmation on Wiz? I refuse to believe he is definitely gone just because of the roster on ohiobobcats.com.

Agree here. Grass isn't always greener. Cornish, if he continued to develop, could have been a 15-20 minute guy next year as a Jr then who knows as a Sr. Look around our roster. Guys over 6'3 who shoot 3s well aren't exactly plentiful. We need more not less. Not the end of the world but we aren't guaranteed to get anyone bigger or better via the portal unless some folks are bringing sacks of cash we aren't aware of.

Let's hope Boals and Co. can work their magic and bring in some gems. We just can't expect it before it happens.

On the Wiz, zero confirmation that he's in the portal anywhere. All we have is ohiobobcats.com removing him from the roster. That could be a mistake, or maybe it means he just isn't playing anymore anywhere.
