EMU grabs two Depaul transfers, Jalen Terry and Da'sean Nelson. Both started most of Depaul's games and were semi-productive.

If this feels weird - The catalyst is Julian's high school teammate at Thomas Worthington (same class) Tyrese Hughey is at Furman.

Greenville is a million times better than Kent, too.

Will eat my words if this proves otherwise, but I would take Sheldon over him 10 times out of ten.

Portal closes May 1st. When do you expect us to have our portal big (minus Vic Searls) locked in by?

Good to know players now view the SoCon as a step up from the MAC. Eeesh.

My thoughts exactly. Says a lot about the state of the MAC right now.

Furman University is ranked #46 out of 211 National Liberal Arts Colleges for academics per US News. He made a good choice.

Maybe that's not his thinking.

The SoCon has been better than the MAC for a few seasons now. I would definitely view it as a step up.

Furmans endowment is probably larger than ours. Maybe their NIL pool is larger too

Is it a MAC problem or geographical problem now that NIL is place? Just noticing a lot of southern mid-major schools have become more prominent in hoops since the adaption. Money talks, but perhaps climate is playing a factor in the decision. A milder winter during the season might be preferred after a few years north. Just my own speculation on the shift.

Could be geographical, but the SoCon also just out spends the MAC on basketball now. Not massively, but both the median and average program budget in the SoCon exceeds the MAC now. That wasn't true as recently as 2019, but MAC spending has decreased.

Think that's a good indicator of how hard it is to fund both football and basketball at a school like a MAC school that doesn't generate a ton of revenue from either. Kind of crazy that our budget is in line with VMI, which is a tiny state school, has never won anything of note in basketball, plays in a tiny market, etc. Student fees alone should let us dwarf a school like that, but our spend has to stretch further, I guess.

Ike is visiting Nicholls this weekend. I wonder if the door is still open for him to withdraw from the portal.

Or, we could now be having a different conversation about the relative state of the MAC vs. the SoCon, and you're just failing to follow how the conversation's changed and throwing a little hissy fit for no reason.

I know my vote.

Sure, but they could have teamed up at a number of different places including Kent if that was the main cog.

I know my vote.
A "different" conversation started by someone quoting "Sullinger to Furman" and then concluding players view the SoCon as a step up. The conversation is only happening because of Sullinger's decision, which is clearly driven by the friend's presence. My impression is Hughey would not have been able to find a spot at Kent as he has only been a part-time player for Furman.

Yes.

Also, yes.

But that doesn't mean that questions weren't posed that are no longer about Sullinger's specific decision, and those are the questions I responded to. What FJC asked is in no way answered by this:

There are several people here who now perceive the SoCon as above the MAC, and now we're discussing that. Not sure why you're having trouble following that.

Hughey is 6'6 and 220lbs with rotational experience at the D1 level. That's not easy to come by in the portal. He could easily find a spot at Kent and even on our roster.

Remember when VMI played crazy up-tempo and jacked threes all the time and it seemed like mad science?

Yep, they beat Kentucky at Rupp and then got absolutely blown out by Jacksonville State a few days later. Boom bust.

That coach left VMI for their biggest rival, The Citadel.
