Akron lands West Virginia Guard Josiah Harris.

That's three former West Virginia players singed in last 48 hours.

Arkon is now West Virginia Junior.

John Groce doing John Groce things.
Akron, Toledo, BG, and Kent have all done a solid job replacing what they lost all things considered.

We had Shereef and Ike landed by this week last year, so hoping for some Bobcat news soon.

Former Ohio recruit Malik Dia to Ole Mise (from Belmont)

At least that is the report.

I would rather have the HBCU tandem PG/wing mentioned earlier than almost any JUCO out there.

Those two haven't committed anywhere yet so.....

Anytime you can get the 8th man from a 9-24 Big 12 team you gotta do it.

The question with all of these guys the Zips have recruited:

Are they what their numbers say they are .... or are they what the HS recruiting experts projected them to be. I would expect somewhere in the middle, which is still BIG for the MAC. Akron now looking at a 6-1, 220-pound guard, a 6-8, 235-pound post and a 6-7, 220-pound wing.

That plays all day long in the MAC.

As a projection, this should be an Indiana State type team next season ... but even at that, lose the wrong game and it's still the NIT.

West Virginia wasn't even an Indiana State team last year.

Akron picked up the guys that were 7th and 8th in terms of minutes last year. Totally possible -- likely even -- that they become nice players in the MAC. But I don't think this turns them into a fringe at large team and one of the best non P5 teams instantly seems a bit over.

80% of the portal guys haven't landed anywhere yet.

Maybe it's like playing poker and some of the guys asking too much $$ will back down from that and take a more reasonable amount. At the end it will be a buyer's market. If the choice for a player is take less to play in the MAC or play intramurals at the local community college, then playing the long game is correct for Boals. We'll get the last laugh.

I hope you're right. I feel like this same thing happened last year and we were left without a chair (AKA big man) when the music stopped.

With this being the last of the "Covid exception" days, there could be a huge last minute rush of guys into the portal beyond the almost 2000 that are already there.

Then getting a couple of moneyball specials will be easy. Schools that used up their schollies early like Akron might be kicking themselves at that point.

I'm 85% certain this will be how it ends up. Just a theory, no guarantees.

I loved RayJ and knew he would be fine but Moss? I just don't see it. Great MAC player but good luck. Give Peyton Sparks a call. And after reviewing Groce's additions I think I am good. He is replacing Tribble, Ali and Freeman with castoffs from a baaaad Big 12 team. I am ok with that.

I agree. I thought Moss was a solid MAC guy but I never saw him as P5 good. Then again, I'm not a college basketball coach, so...

Didn't see this one but Jackson Paveletzke from Wofford and ISU. Averaged 15 pts his Freshman year at Wofford. Played in 33 games at ISU but not a ton of production. https://woffordterriers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster...

VC Davis was a really good MAC player. We will see how he develops with all new guys around him since most of his teammates are leaving.

How quickly will we see the Gray unfollows? I'm not sure we can take on another guard.

At this rate, Jesse Burris will be our 6'5" post guy.

This is the fascinating part about recruiting to me. Boals wasn't even following Paveletzke until after he committed. Is he still anticipating Gray or was this first come, first serve?

I think in recruiting we (collective we as basketball fans) take way too much stock into social media follows/unfollows. Malik Dia commented with crying laughing emojis on Boals' post today and as greencat already mentioned, he's committed elsewhere. There's so much we don't know going on in the background. You can't simply boil it down to "oh, he's following him on Twitter, so that must mean we have shot."

There's always a left field guy we weren't expecting.

If it's one guy, yea for sure. When it's the entire roster + staff, that's typically an indication a guy has visited with potential commitment incoming.

Again, why not? As bad as MAC hoops has become, I think we should all want our conference rivals to get better. Personally, I love seeing Sparks returning to Ball St. and Davis coming back to Kent. I would love to see UB get back to a top 25 team, and Ball St. and EMU return to their glory years of the 1990s.

I just don't understand this thinking.

I’ll just copy and paste — When it's the entire roster + staff, that's typically an indication a guy has visited with potential commitment incoming.

This was the case with Wiz, Jaylin, Carter Whitt, Myles Foster, Shereef, and now Gray. Some players committed, others were noted to have visited and didn’t commit. Social media is how they communicate and second instinct is to follow after meeting.
