I totally overlooked the $90K; I was just excited about a formidable home opponent in non-conference. Yea, something is off with the report.

So what is the going rate for us hosting another mid in a buyout game? I don't imagine it happens often.

And all things considered, why not make this a home/home against a solid opponent? Hard enough to get quality games. Could have been a good series.

No idea. I suppose it's possible we had to shell out that kind of cash this late for a quality at-home opponent.

I agree with you, though. Morehead has been on my radar the last few years as a solid non-conference opponent for a H/H. Especially with it being only around 2.5 hours away.

I googled around and found a report that Kentucky paid Evansville $90k for a home game last year; hopefully we're not paying the same rate as Kentucky for home games given the difference in gate/TV deal/revenue.

I wonder if it's basically some sort of accounting trick or something? Like it's actually a Home and Home, but we agree to send some cash to help them with cashflow this season and they re-pay it on the return?

Ohio State has already released their non-conference schedule, but they do have a large gap between the end of November past mid-December. 90K is extremely steep for us to be paying anyone.
Hold on. Let's cut the blasphemy. Ohio would never screw up how we pay or get paid for a non conference game.....I mean, Ohio State is going to make around $300 Million this year in revenue, and they tossed us a whole $1.9 Million for one of their 8 most important weekends next year.

In the words of a certain ex-President -> Sad and Pathetic.

Myrtle bracket hasn't been released, so we don't know that we're for sure playing MTSU.

What's the hold up on the non-conference schedule? Last year, it was released on August 16th, PRIOR to the conference schedule.

Good call, Greencat. We do in fact, open with MTSU (yawn). Win and we likely get USF.

You'd think the organizer would avoid inviting two teams who played in a destination tournament a year ago; let alone matching them up first.

That said, it does look like the tournament was seeded 1. USF 2. Princeton 3. Bradley 4. Ohio 5. MTSU, leading to another matchup.

According to D1 Docket the last game is indeed against a non-D1. Muskingum on 12/30

So, we’re just missing dates for AP and Davidson. Schedule looks something like this:

11/4 @James Madison
11/9 Austin Peay
11/12 @ Illinois State
11/15 @Memphis
11/21 MTSU in Myrtle
11/22 USF/Portland in Myrtle
11/24 Myrtle Beach
11/30 Robert Morris
12/7 Morehead State
12/14 @ Marshall
@Davidson/Charlotte
12/30 Muskingum
Feb 2nd SBC/MAC

I think this is one of our better schedules in recent years. Especially, if we take care of business in Myrtle against MTSU and face South Florida.

Challenging start in November with 3 straight (tough) road games followed by Myrtle.

Yes very tough start being away from the Convo for so long, hope the guys are meshing well. Most every other team face the same challenges with lots of new faces every year, if anything we may have more continuity than most. Those first 2 games will be close to toss ups, would be huge to be 2-0 starting out on the road.

I would like to think we're putting Austin Peay on that first Saturday after JMU.

Good point, you’re probably right. That would be a more ideal break in the schedule than waiting until the very end of November for a game in the convo. Edit made to original post.

Actually, that's not going to happen. Maybe Sunday, but Sunday college basketball is a buzz kill. Austin Peay is at Butler Friday the 8th.

Winter break starts Dec. 14 iirc. Won't be much of a crowd Dec. 17 if so.

We haven't had much of a crowd in a while. Seems the schedule doesn't fit in with the fan's lives or interest is down. Always surprised to see the small crowds we get. I try to get my student employees to go and have had some success, but not much. They do not even follow the team or know who is on it. Need to get the student population interested so we will have fans going on in the future. My section is starting to look old.

Some ways to help get a few more older locals to show up....

Have disabled parking that is not behind a barricade and unable to be used, and if no handicapped spaces are available, don't charge them to park.

Don't try to make a senior citizen who could be on a fixed income buy a 4-pack of season tickets to retain the price per they were paying for two.

Have beer for less than $8 a can. Half of MLB stadiums had $5 beer last season and look at the payroll those organization have to contend with.

These and others matters were brought to the attention of the ticket office guy who seemed very dismissive of the concerns.

And obviously have more than one D-1 game in the month of December, with the understanding that teams have turned chicken 5hit to come play here.

I get it. I donate in order to get to the purple lot for my dad and neighbor to walk in easily. My dad will be 83 and my neighbor is mid 70's. Kind of a long walk no matter where you park. They have to do something to get people here. Just a team isn't doing it apparently.
