Couple of interesting facts:
1) Last OU coach to be MAC coach of the year - Larry Hunter, 1994
2) Last OU player to be MAC defensive player of the year - hasn't happened
3) Akron has played on Saturday night 8 of the last 10 MAC championships
4) Three NCAA tournament wins will always be special
Not ever been much of one to use COY, POY as benchmarks Everyone here can make the case that there have been performances by players on both defensive and offensive sides as well as overall that have been slighted. everyone can read the list of winners and have some arguments along the way. Same with COY. Saul has done a masterful job this year but was not even in consideration for COY as the folks that do make that determination were locked onto a different criteria in their minds and Saul's accomplishment with his depleted roster will be lost forever as someone cites "Keith was COY" to denigrate what was done with the roster and young talent this year. ..... Those honors are not as well researched and voting as informed as they think they are and do not carry much weight IMHO. Many is the argument that is ended with "POY" or "COY" as if that honor actually means something in every case.
Playing Saturday night is an admirable record I long for Ohio to get to....in a 1 big league that you wish to stand heads above everyone else....it is not a goal, it should be the expectation. Ball State domination of Vball in the 90s and Ohio Vball in the 2000s are examples of the standard that should be the floor (even if the ceiling is the roof) of what we should be achieving.
