You make a good case. They certainly *could* do better, but would they do better? They pay him less than $250k after bonuses. I guess we'll find out what they want to do, because I think his contract is up as of less than an hour ago.
I think we tend to look at other programs with a less critical view than we do our own. I think the biggest problem with him is the trajectory of the team. This is his 6th season. These are his players and they are a hot mess. If Saul put this team on the court in year 6 I would be leading the charge to get him canned.
Everything you said is true, but I think it's fair to be less critical with other programs. We have the biggest building, draw the biggest crowds and pay some of the biggest salaries. We should be demanding more.

What does the below-MAC-average salary and hopeless fan situation in Ypsi really get you? The best they'll do is an up-and-coming assistant, a coach from the dregs of D1 or someone from a lower division.

Your assessment of Murphy and his teams is accurate, but EMU is not Ohio (thankfully). I just don't see a great answer for them, but it may well be time for a fresh start.

I hear you. But, on the other hand, it is a one-bid conference with zero national recognition and nobody even sniffing the top 25. Kind of a miracle we get to watch the quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals on TV or online. The final still gets a prime spot on the espn networks as well. Could be a lot worse.
I'm with you. I'm just happy I'm not keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes my computer doesn't get a fatal virus from watching the live feed from some nefarious website. ;)

RANT ON:

It's pretty pathetic that we're having to switch between three different broadcast networks as this tournament moves along (BCSN/ESPN3, CBS Sports Net, ESPN2). The MAC never ceases to amaze me with their broadcasting negotiations.

RANT OFF.

Yeah I know it's just super frustrating to see a league like the Horizon get the main channel ESPN all to themselves the other night, while we're going to go up against bigger conferences on Saturday.

Yeah, but they had to have their championship game on a Tuesday after starting the tournament on a Friday 13 days before the Dance to do it.

Reminded me of the guy on Miami with the low-blow in the 1994 championship game. This one was a little more subtle.
