If I'm not mistaken, the 2017 schedule sets up pretty nicely for Ohio. At least we have a good start.

We have...

-Charleston Classic in November (Auburn, Clemson, Dayton, Hofstra, Indiana State, Old Dominion and Temple). Really imperative we get a good draw here. Would love a run of Temple, Dayton and Clemson.

-Return home games from Iona, Western Kentucky and Marshall for sure right? Wasn't sure if the Marshall series was continued. We played them at home in 2015-2016.

Need to fill...

-Could probably go for another big money away game early in the year at a power school, just in case we don't get a good draw in Charleston? It would be nice if it was somewhat local, but playing outside of the region might be better.

-Some other regional mid-major matchup to replace Cleveland State? (Wright State, Duquesne, Valpo, NKU, Murray State, Morehead State, Oakland, Robert Morris, etc.)

-Non regional mid major? (VCU, Davidson, UNI, Illinois State, Bucknell, Belmont, Rhode Island, FGCU, Wichita State, Vermont, Stony Brook)

-Then obviously some games to pad the win total at home.

Do we go to Purdue next year as part of the football series as well?

I was under the impression that happens the year after the football game.

I would call Illinois State and ask them where we park the bus next year and tell them where they can park their bus in Athens the year after. That is how its done. I would call VCU, Dayton, Wichita State, Butler, Vermont, Monmouth, UNC Wilmington, FGCU, Belmont, Valpo, Nevada, Colorado State, New Mexico State. Schedule NCAA and NIT qualifiers up and down the schedule. Tell them we know how hard it is to get good games and here is your chance to get a good home games. If the big boys don't want us, then get this group on the schedule. A bundle teams that will put up wins and lots of them. We got to schedule like are a NCAA tournament team. Really challenge our players every nite. We can't pick another conference, but we can schedule a power conference slate in the non-conference schedule.

VCU, Butler, and Wichita State are not coming to Athens - no way, no how. Because of geography, I'd venture to guess that Colorado St, NM State, and Nevada are not either, but they'd be great games to watch. Dayton is a maybe given that it was close to happening this year.

The rest I could see, and would like to see OUr guys play. I'm not going to invest too much into talking scheduling for next year because:

1) We have a pretty damn good non-conf schedule for 2017-18 that's already about half set up. The six games GoCats mentioned are all going to be good games for the program. Win 5 of those 6, and they'll be sittin' pretty in late December 2017.

2) And, Non-Conf scheduling for Ohio and similar teams is very difficult, and I'm not gonna question too much about next year's schedule based on #1 above.

3) And lastly, no matter how much BMW-ing is done on here, the scheduling philosophy isn't going to change based on comments on this board. Writing a letter to Mr. Schaus might, but not on here.

Should get a few solid opponents in the Charleston Classic, depending on how many we win. Iona, WKU, and possibly Marshall at home looks great.

I'd say this is a really solid base. Those tournaments on neutral courts are a great way to get some decent opponents on the schedule.

It doesn't matter what the schedule is in 2017-18 as if this team doesn't win the league tourney they could opt out of playing in the post season anyway. I can't believe the program chose to sit out this March. Evey other season it was ok to play in the CBI/CIT and other lesser tourneys. The bit about being tired and injured was a sad excuse as if this team got an invite to the big dance does anyone think they would have declined? Play the walkons if necessary as most 19-20 year old kids want to play one more game no matter what the circumstances.

Need that home & home with Tulane and Rice before they get good in hoops again. Rice is in the CBI but their RPI was like 168 against a SOS of a pathetic 288... so they are still not there yet. Tulane's RPI was a puke inducing 298. Play them ASAP.

And with all the hand-wringing over other school's academic standards... none needed about Rice and Tulane. High quality private schools.
