... but man that should make Akron/Ohio games way more fun.
Not sure if I'd say way more fun. I actually hate it.

I still love John Groce (as well as Dustin Ford & Jamaal Walker) for what they did for Ohio hoops.

It will be like watching two of your kids battle it out....but one of your kids coaches that sack of garbage in NE Ohio.

I dislike Akron....and the Dambrot vs. fill-in-the-blank Ohio coach rivalry was great.

This kind of dampens it for me. I hate to root against Groce. Was hoping he didn't take this job (or Fiami)

Oh well. Guess that's just the world of college hoops. Just more proof that they are only as loyal as the logo on their chest and the person signing their paychecks at the moment.
If anything this just shows Ohio has to up its game in recruiting, depending on what kind of guys Groce gets to Akron.

But on the other side of the coin...man...we were SO close to breaking through with him here the first time, and LeVert and Bradds ready to come also. If he did that for Akron instead I would be super pissed.

Yup. Will be a VERY bitter pill to swallow.....and probably change a lot of folks views on SaulBall if he doesn't break thru soon

Hard to hate a guy that took us the the sweet 16. Wish he wasn't going to Akron. It will be interesting to see the details of the contract. Definitely a step down in facilities.

Yup. This is known for the majority of coaches out there, and for those loyal to a University(like those of us on this board) it's a tough pill to swallow sometimes. Not that he doesn't like or appreciate Athens... But - It's a job to them, you know. I could be enticed away from mine to a competitor as well.

I guess JG may have a little too much ego to take a 'step down' AC slot at IU.. Was kind of wondering if that would happen or not.

I wish him well for the most part, and in the much success in the NIT while in the MAC :) Maybe 3 games a year he can suck.

Ohio, Ohio, and Ohio.
If it all goes down as we suspect, he'll make the conference better than most other hires at Akron would have IMO. And I'm sure he'll be on the first money train out of there as well.

I wonder if his recruiting may have to change a bit from Ohio vs Akron.

JG should have waited for a better opportunity.

Argh !!!!

When here, the guy knew how to build a team for March.

And, he could recruit really, really well (obviously!).

If this is true, Akron may be in for yet another 10 year run of MAC dominance.

Does Akron hate overpower Groce love? I think it does for me.

EDIT - I thought about this a little more after I initially posted it. I think its summed up simply by a few thoughts. First, We'll never forget, and hopefully always appreciate the 2010 through 2013 seasons, for which JG and his staff were primarily responsible.

That said, and lastly, I was asked by a friend last night when asked if I'd root for Akron since he's now there. My response was simply "Not a chance in hell".

I'll root for Akron out of conference, like I always have, with or without Groce. I'll root against the Zips, like I always have, when they are playing Ohio or in another MAC game where an Akron loss benefits Ohio, with or without Groce.
