I may be at the other extreme on this subject. Groce did average during the season and great in post season. He parlayed that success for a great gig in Illinois. He took us to the Sweet 16 and then left us. Divorced us. And in the process ripped the heart out of a team positioned to possibly another run (we have no idea - runs by teams like Ohio are often fueled by match-ups). I don't blame him for leaving at all. Most everyone else would have done the same thing. His time at Illinois, for a number of reasons, has been pretty much a disaster. His regular season record and performance has been very similar to his stay at Ohio - no post season run to speak of.

Right or wrong, he should/will be fired at the end of the year.

If he has the audacity to call up Schaus our AD should say, "how you doing, whatever reference and connections I can provide." But NOT bring him back. He left us. In doing so he lost the privilege of coming back when it suits him. Additionally, if Schaus has the lack of scruples to call up Groce and look to bring him back - he's an idiot and a prostitute.

I have no control if Groce wants to come back. I have no control if Schaus fires Saul to bring Groce back. I can only control my actions. If Saul is fired at the end of this year and Groce is brought in...I am through with Ohio sports. You can come back to this thread and call me on it. But I won't be here.

I'm also 100% confident that Schaus is not an idiot, not a prostitute, and will not even entertain the thought of firing Saul to bring back Groce.

awe that's cute, more loyal than oh yeller to a man and not bobcat sports. Maybe we can get a Saul statue put in your front yard.

Ethics, I am a servant leader.I love Dabo Sweeney and other servant leader, but you have to lead. You have to transform your players and get the most out of your players. Saul seems like he has a good basketball mind. I question his ability to develop and inspire players. There have been at least 4 games where we have scored five points or less in the last five minutes. Who has gotten better? Who is playing to their maximum potential. Recruiting, you have to get the best players you can get, not projects. Culver has an offensive package, but lacks confidence because he was told he was recruited for defensive purposes. He needs to be developed, coached up. Doug taylor, Ellis Dozier and Wadley should be blocking shots, we should own the boards, but they are out of position a lot of times. KK should have added more to his package, he should be dominating the MAC. TC added to his game, but did not know how to be a go to guy at the end of the game. Saul is nice, he has a basketball mind. My question is does he get the best out of our players? Will he ever get the best out of our players?

Saul is our guy. He has some work to do but he's our guy.

Groce is a big boy. Took the money and ran. He can dry his eyes with the Illini Ben Franklins.

I think someone else mentioned it on this thread - why we talking about something that will never happen?

This team loses Campbell(already done) and Kaminski after this season. Next year the starting five will be pg Simmons-sr, sg Dartis-jr, sg Culver-so, f Block Block-jr and f Carter-so. I think we go small to get Culver's talent on the floor and be very athletic. Carter and Block are scrappy and fight for loose balls and boards despite giving up several inches every nite. Taylor is a nice player when we need a little extra helps against larger front line like Akron. Laster will be a solid 6th man. We can see already even without Campbell were still a pretty good team. Right now they are leaning on a could younger players a bit than they figured. Simmons has to play at a high level. He plays well we play well. He struggles we don't. Dartis needs to take that next step and become a primary scorer like Kellogg did his last two seasons. I see some improvement the last few games from him. Campbell was our #1 option and now they are trying to find out who is the guy we want with ball with the game on the line. Culver and Carter are going to be an exciting duo for three more years.

Using allen's reasoning Dayton should have fired Archie Miller in the middle of his third year after no NCAA's and a 1-5 start in the A-10. Oh wait, they went to the Elite 8 that season and have three NCAA's in a row. Give Saul a chance. Two and a half years is not enough time to even be having this discussion.

Groce now 1 win in last 7 games. That season ending matchup with Rutgers looking like it will be for all the marbles to see who gets the cellar in the Big Ten. Why wait? Let's fire Saul right now so he can be moved out in plenty of time for John 2.0.

You're leaving out four players who will have a lot to say about PT next year: Freshmen in Butler, Vander Plas, Gareri, and also James Gollon. And that doesn't include Doug Taylor, who's playing a lot right now.

Culver is a dynamic player for the next 3 years IF he solves that jump shot, and gets a little better finishing around the rim.

If you guys haven't been paying attention to the recruiting board, I think Zach Butler's gonna come in here and blow people's doors off. A 6'4" PG? Hell to the yes. Have that guy under Jaaron's wing for a year then let him go off as a sophomore.

And I really wanna get that Haliburton kid from OshKosh, WI in here. If he gets some bulk to go with his length he's gonna be a really good one.

All Saul is really missing is the one "surprise" recruit who we didn't think we would get or had a shot at getting. But he may have already gotten a couple steals that were underrated, like Jason and Jordy. Those two guys stepped up big time against Akron and they're sooooo young.

Two thoughts:

1) Taylor is a five, whether anyone on here considers him as "starting" is up to them. Saul does, I know that.

2) The game, in my opinion, is going away from having true Five's, and going more toward having two Four's. We have that, and will have that moving forward.

bobcatsquared, I agree that we can always use help at the 5, especially if it can allow us to move JC to 4. If you like JC, you are going to love Vander Plas. He is bigger, stronger, driver to the rim who can slam it down like we are seeing Jason do. He also can "pick and pop" and shoot the 3. This kid comes from a very athletic family and is going to look great in Bobcat gear. I felt very good after seeing JC play a couple of basketball games his senior year, and I feel even better after watching tape of Vander Plas. You heard it here.
