Just a random Friday thought. I know it's not happening any time soon, but most of us now only know the Convo. Will it be replaced and if it was replaced, would we ever get a bigger arena for the area?

It's not happening in the forseeable furture...no money.

I'm guessing any new arena would actually be smaller than the Convo.

If Duke, Cal, Vandy, Butler, Minnesota, Washington, etc. can stand playing in really old buildings... it can be done. (all much older than the Convo)

Auburn and Ole Miss built newer and smaller arenas in the last few years but look how much $$$$ they have from their big-time football programs.

Why do you say that? University is growing and this is a Convocation Center, not an arena.

WHY would the Convo be replaced? New dorms needed? Remodeling not an option? Arena needs some upgrades but she is a grand old gal. Build it and they will come

It may be almost 50 yrs old, but damn it's still the class of the MAC and impresses the hell out of people. I heard that when Eastmoor was at the Convo for its regional last week, they got to use the home locker room the first night. The players and coaches were incredibly impressed. And when Grace Christian was there for its regional, a Dispatch headline spoke of how in awe they were of the Roundhouse. I know, GC is small school (170 in the upper four) that plays in a cracker box, but other schools have had a similar reaction. Yes, it could use some upgrades, but I don't know of another college arena in Ohio that makes people stop and look on the outside and the inside.

I haven't been in the Convo since Larry Hunter was coach but I think it had a renovation not too many years before that visit. The makeover reminded me of what Georgia did to spruce up Stegman Coliseum. And the Convo is bigger. If that's good enough for an athletic department with the $$$$$$$$$$ of Georgia, it should be good enough for almost any school even in towns not named Athens.

13,000 seats is a good capacity for a national program. Watching on National TV it does look odd with no seats behind the basket until the upper sections. It definitely could use ribbon boards behind the baskets for some sprucing up. Has the bones to look amazing with an assessed valuation that is about triple Peden Stadium.
