The dozen or so people who still care about Miami hoops are rejoicing.

Make Miami Basketball Relevant Again!

In all seriousness, its more fun when our "rival" actually plays at a varsity level in Basketball. Would Randy Ayers be able to save this junk, or is he too old? Maybe go the unconventional route with a Ron Harper or something? If Groce ends up there, the rivalry is back in a big way

Speculation that Christian may make his way back to Miami & the MAC...

https://tmgcollegesports.com/2017/03/10/christian-ready-t... /

Of course he says no.. But who knows. It's not working at BC, and he is a good MAC coach.

Not saying he isn't, but he inherited Kent and Ohio teams that were coming off tournament appearances that returned a cache of talent. If he could rebuild Miami, I would give him his due plus some.

It would be hilarious if JC came back to Miami. That guy literally is incapable of winning outside the MAC.

If he turns Miami around...does he jump ship in 3 years to go to, say, St. John's?

Don't recall reading anything from the TMG sports site. There's probably a good reason for that; they talk about the deflated feelings toward the basketball program at Boston College. Do they have any idea about Miami? They had one of the most unsung coaches (Charlie Coles) in the nation and they still couldn't get talent or fans in the stands. When was the last time basketball was more popular than hockey in Oxford. I am going to go out on a limb and say when Ronald Reagan was President, Ron Harper was lighting it up, and the student body was getting fired up for the upcoming Flock of Seagulls concert. Outside of a huge payday, I can't see Coach Christian leaving an ACC school for Miami, no matter how much Miami may think they are the Duke of the MAC.

There's something about their attitudes that tell me they'd bring a lot of locker room issues with them. One thing we have on our team is good chemistry. I'd like to see that continue. Am I missing your sarcasm button? I hope so.

Why not Jason Grunkemeyer? A Charlie Coles disciple that with his Moeller pedigree can recruit the Cincy area. Has moved up to associate head coach at Balls so his star is rising. And don't you think he would bring a little something back to the 'Battle of the Bricks' rivalry.

Pat Kelsey from Winthrop needs to be in their top two. He's a SW Ohio native and he has the Eagles in the dance. He also did a masterful job of beating us in our house a few years ago. Unfortunately, if someone takes Archie Miller or Chris Mack, Kelsey may be on UD and X's short list.

Good thought ....and probably affordable.

He is a rising young talent. Maybe he would take Walt with him...

I am not sure he is a disciple and not sure they want one of those types. That is not the style wa watched with the 70s, 80s and 90s teams anyway.

They gutted both mens and womens programs

I trust you mean the Illini's short list. Going to Miami would be a lateral move at best, particularly since school doesn't really seem to care about hoops...

I hate Miami as much as the next guy, but saying this is pretty much saying that the Big South (26th conference in RPI is the same as the MAC (13th). Count me among the people who'd rather beat a respectable Miami than a perennially pathetic Miami.

I hear ya, R.J. I agree about conferences and I know he went to Xavier, but unless Miami would offer about 5 boatloads of money, I can't foresee circumstances under which Kelsey would leave the top team in his conference for a team that has been trending toward---and has now reached---the bottom half of its conference.

If I were in Oxford, I wouldn't limit myself to guys with HC experience. I'd also look at bright, young assistants from programs like Michigan or Notre Dame, a guy who'd fit in well and presumably has recruiting connections in the region.

Miami University (Ohio) expected to hire Purdue assistant Jack Owens, sources told ESPN. First reported by https://twitter.com/SIPeteThamel&mdash ; Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanESPN) https://twitter.com/GoodmanESPN/status/847138365170438144
Not sure what else they could attract except for an assistant coach like this one. This job is easily right now one of the top 50 worst Division One College basketball jobs in the country. Good Luck Jack.

Could be a good hire. Purdue has a couple key players form Ohio with Vince Edwards and Dakota Mathias. I don't know how involved coach Owens was in their recruitment, but if he already has ties to some areas in Ohio that will be a big advantage for him at Miami.

Completely disagree. It might have been a few years ago but they've started putting back into the program. Just because Cooper didn't succeed doesn't mean someone else can't.

Yup. I know we make sport of trashing Miami on this board, and much of that is warranted, but the job in Oxford isn't even in the bottom half of the MAC. I think the administration is finally paying attention to hoops and the right coach can build something good there. "Worst 50" is irrational hatred.

It's not Top 50 worst but neither is it an attractive job right now. No institutional support, no fan support, no facilities. Maybe the first two can be changed but takes a lot of heavy lifting to recruit around Millett Hall.

With the right coach I see Miami beccomming a contender very quickly.

Hopefully, they can get back to 3-4-5K in the stands as well.

I hope that's the case. It would be good for the MAC if Miami was in the top half of the league again.
