I've posted once before on the football forum about how little Grandview Heights H.S, smallest public school district in central Ohio, produced two football players who, while playing for a college all-stars team, outscored the Chicago Bears in a game pitting the all-stars v. the NFL champs.

In addition, that same small school district sandwiched between downtown Columbus, Upper Arlington and Ohio State U. campus, once had a basketball player who, while playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide, hit a full-court shot measuring 84 feet, 11 inches, which remains the longest shot made in a sanctioned NCAA game. George Lin, a 1954 Grandview Bobcat graduate, was recently selected a 2017 SEC Basketball Legends member.

According to this, it was a shot by a member of our buddies down at Marshall that is the record for the longest shot in basketball history.

I remember the Marshall shot, for years they had the foot positions painted on the court. 2" and he would have been out of bounds. And that court was a tad bigger than courts back then.

Cool information BS

Yeah, Steveland, but he meant it as a pass, not a shot, right?

Looks like that shot, bobcatsquared, was the longest in history up to that time. I believe it said 84 ft, 11 inches; the Marshall shot was officially recorded by the NCAA as 89 ft, 10 inches.

In fact, it looks like the shot you mentioned had been eclipsed once before the Morris shot at Marshall: "[Marshall] submitted the shot to the Guinness Book of World Records. Morris broke the previous longest shot on record set by Virginia Tech's Les Henson against Florida State five years earlier. Henson nailed his shot from 89 feet and three inches."

If you like stats, this is an interesting break down of Baron Davis' NBA long bomb.
