I was recently in a line at an airline counter in Seattle to check in for a flight to Denver. As I was talking to the guy in front of me, he noticed my Ohio jacket. Before the dust settled, we found out that there were 3 Ohio alums-'72, '70 and '66 standing there in a row. Had a good time catching up with our time in Athens. Point is, wear your Ohio colors, you never know who you'll meet.

I was sitting in Broad Ripple at 3 wise men Brewpub Saturday when the waiter went and got his camera and took a pic of me and my shirt. Said his manager was a Bobcat Freak and would hate not being there....offered to take me back to the office to show me the shrine that has Ohio stuff in it. I laughed and mentioned the word "cult" which really got him going. If you are ever in the area around Butler and need a good brewpub you might keep that one in mind. The waiter turned out to be a Vol ....so I gladly pulled out a few choice comments about detesting orange in any shade.

Amazing to me no matter where you go ....there are Bobcats....and they never just walk by...they always let you know they are Bobcats.

Was flying out of Newark airport a couple of years ago.
My wife and I were at the gate when the crew came by.
The pilot saw my Ohio shirt and pointed to the Ohio luggage tag on his flight bag.

Turns out both the pilot and co-pilot graduated from O.U.'s aviation program.

Had dinner at the bar of a beachfront restaurant in Ft Myers Beach two nights ago. The woman seated to my left was a Bobcat from Cleveland. Our spouses seemed very used to us oftem meeting alumni in this manner. We had a delightful meal.

(She had chardonnay, i had Blanton's)

My family flew out of Vegas last summer at end of vacation in Utah. We had time to kill before having to return our rental car so we stopped at the pawn shop from Pawn Stars. The door man noticed my Ohio Bobcat shirt as we approached and yelled out "Go Bobcats." He wasn't an alum but is from Columbus, where he got to know pretty well some of the basketball players from when I was a student (early 1980s) - John Devereaux, Robert Tatum, Victor Alexander.

We had a nice conversation and he told me to round up my family and that he'd be right back as he went back to the shop's offices. We thought he was going to get Chum or Rick or the Old Man. Instead, he returned with a photo of the show's stars which he autographed.

Was in Asheville, NC last fall with my family and parents. Dad had on his Ohio fleece jacket and we had a nice conversation with a Toledo fan (whose son goes to OU-saw the light and error of his father's ways). This was just a few days before the historic win in the Glass Bowl.

I come to confess before all of you that I was quite clear to the Rocket fan that I thought his team would probably win. Oh me of little faith!

I live in Central Florida now. Every single time I or my wife have on an Ohio shirt or hat, we get comments from other Bobcats. Love seeing the Bobcat pride stretch across the country.

For many years while traveling I've worn OHIO apparel. That practice has led to many enjoyable connections. The two most recent occasions:

* In early February on a delightful afternoon near Destin, FL, I was sitting outside and sipping a milkshake. Two couples were approaching. One of the men was wearing an M (Michigan) cap. He saw my OHIO cap and began good naturedly ribbing me about my Ohio State roots. Before I could reply, his wife said, "Dear, he is wearing green and that's not Ohio State."

Much fun banter ensued. When I asked if he remembered the last time Ohio and Michigan matched up, he said, "Never?"

Again his wife spoke up. "It was in basketball," she said, "in the NCAA."

* The other recent occasion occurred last November in Valletta, the capital of the island nation of Malta. I was walking down the pedestrian-only main street and was wearing an OHIO cap. Approaching were two men. One was wearing a polo shirt with the Attack Cat logo. I stopped and pointed my forefinger to my cap's logo. Enjoyable conversation ensued and, within minutes, learned that we had been Ohio students at the same time, only a year apart.

Well, I'll chime in with my most memorable OHIO gear experience. My wife and I were on a flight from Reykjavik to Glasgow. When we landed and were waiting around to collect our baggage a young couple see my OHIO cap and say, "Go Bobcats!" We start a conversation. It turns out they were from Athens. She was a professor, and he was a native of Glasgow. We had been in Iceland at the same time, were on the same flight to Scotland, and met at the baggage claim.
