A few higher-ups -- including NBA GMs and TV announcers -- replied that they liked the idea, but it would never fly. "It's actually a great idea," Mark Cuban emailed Elam in 2012. "We couldn't do it in the NBA, but it could be fun in the D-League." (Cuban verified the email in an exchange with ESPN.com last week.)
I'm curious to see how it works out in this tournament. I could see the NBA trying it in D-League. The thought of not having buzzer beaters seems like it kills excitement, but if you still have a shot clock and teams are going back and forth trying to hit the game winning shot, that'd really be just as exciting.
It'd be a drag if no one could score... Especially if the game is already a blowout.
