This was the second thought I had when I saw Groce was going to Akron (first was "oh crap!"). My gut's telling me it will be Groce. I hope I'm way off as I normally am.

How about this answer? D) We can pay attention to our own team and stop worrying about a guy who hasn't coached a game here in more than five years.

One thing that needs to be considered with Akron is that the cupboard has been cleaned out a bit. Gone are all starters except Robot Ham, and Josh Williams. The only guys that have played any kind of minutes that return are Ivey and Robotham. So this coming year is probably going to be uphill sledding for them unless they bring in a load of transfers that can play right away.

Agree. Groce is nothing more than a footnote in our history. Saul is our coach.

I think this is a fair question. I don't support the "jilted ex-lover" mentality some have with Groce, but he is a former Bobcat and back in the MAC now. This will only make the comparisons between Saul and Groce greater. Every recruiting battle will be scrutinized. Every game will be overanalyzed.

There is no escape.

This is going to be a tremendous bake-off. Hopefully, a rising tide lifts both ships.

This metaphor takes the cake. Let's set sail on a new era of rivalries.

I like this sentiment. It reminds me a little of what happened when Marshall rejoined the MAC. The recruitment in the whole conference in football went up a notch. I could see this happening in basketball -- perhaps not conference wide, but at the top contending schools like OHIO, Akron, Kent, and now maybe Miami.

And even if it hadn't changing coaches and systems almost always results in a step or two backwards. Personally, I think one of the reasons Dambrot left is he saw what was coming. They had no bigs of consequence coming back. Groce is not walking into a ready-made team. In all likelihood it's going to take him two or three years.

It's as easy as pie. Leave Akron and Miami in our wake.

The longer I've had to think on it, the less I find it to be a bad thing. If both Ohio and Akron can raise their bars, including their scheduling, along with UB, and say Ball State and Toledo kind of do the same in the west, it's good for the league. I just wish the league would adjust this home game requirement rule.

I suppose the ceiling is the roof now.
