This is the one out of all the defections that I feel hurt the most. I never believed Lavert was coming even after he verballed. His trajectory was too high. I knew that Wiggington and Morillo would be solid and were solid at Buffalo and South Florida. We missed out on the big guy who went to Oklahoma State but he seemed to be troubled. Tariq Owens had a so-so year at St. John's and Rio Adams has never materialized past Odessa Juco.

But Bradds...oh Bradds. This guy has been so steady and so spectacular. He would have absolutely obliterated the terrible defensive bigs in our league. Big Dog would have been up and undered to death. He and Big Tone would have given us several NCAAs. I am not one for hyperbole but he really is the one that got away that I wished we could have hung onto.

Refresh my memory on who all of these guys were and when they would have enrolled as freshmen.

Lavert did more than verbaled to Ohio. He signed an LOI.

Caris LeVert signed an LOI and would have been here in the fall of 2012. This probably would have been Groce's banner recruit outside of DJ had Groce stuck around. Got released from the LOI and ended up at Michigan and in the NBA.

Evan Bradds was verballed to come here in the fall of 2013. When Groce left he reopened his recruitment and signed with Belmont and excelled there all four years.

Long story short the 2013 roster might have included Stevie Taylor, Nick Kellogg, Ricardo Johnson, TJ Hall, Jon Smith, Caris LeVert, Evan Bradds, Treg Setty and Tony Campbell. Not a bad roster. And that doesn't include if there were spots for Maurice N'Dour, Bean Willis, Khari Harley, Wadley Mompremier and Travis Wilkins.

When Groce signed Lavert, I thought we were about to go on a serious run in recruiting and on the court. Oh well...

Wiggington and Morillo were JUCOs who I believe Christian had coming in and when he left they left. They would have been able to fill in well as junior guys in Saul's first year with athleticism and experience and then as seniors last year. I think Wiggington was a 7th man for Buffs last year and an energy guy. Morillo was an 8 and 6 kind of guy for South Florida.

Owens was a Groce guy who committed and seemed doomed from the start and has been from us to Tennessee to St. John's. I think Rio Adams was a McDonald's guy who started at Kansas, enrolled with us, left 2 months later for Odessa and was at Eastern Kentucky but I dont' remember seeing him when I watched them play this year.

I don't think Wigginton would have done much for us. Very inconsistent, etc. He had one game vs Ohio where he hurt us.

If memory serves, I think Groce was also on Maverick Morgan before he left... Maverick turned out to be a serviceable back up center at Illinois. Would he have started for us? Probably not but, certainly more minutes to be had in the MAC.

Wasn't Owens a Christian recruit?

Mav would have been a Reitz like horse in the MAC. He was also on Malcolm Hill, K Nunn, Jaylon Tate as well. I remember him talking to them and their P's at Flying to the Hoop....just as I turned away from that I bumped into Bradds and talked for about 20 minutes. That was a good day for Ohio Recruiting

From what I've heard it was a combination of Groce leaving and Bradds being a little turned off by JC.
