How is Tony healing? Is Tony in the upcoming draft? I assume he will be going overseas to play.

He's not healthy enough to compete in the Portsmouth Invitational or I assume he would be in it. That probably won't help things. Although I am sure he will make a ton of money overseas once healthy.

As I understand it, the appeal has been filed with the NCAA, but there has been no decision yet. They are not known for doing anything in a timely manner.

I have a major problem with the timeliness portion of this. If the kid wants to come back, but they wait until June to make a simple decision, there may not be a scholarship open. What's so damn hard about taking the time to rule on appeals that have affects on scholarships like this? I'm sure there are others. In fact, I'd be interested to know how many other appeals have been made relative to men's and women's basketball since their recruiting decisions are directly affected by these appeal decisions.

Anyone have any insight?

My take:

Bureaucracy National Championship:
#1 US Federal Government vs #2 NCAA

Heck of a matchup.

The NCAA is worried about setting bad precedents, but being compassionate at the same time. Tone played in more than 30% of the games, but he could have went pro last year and he is a good student. If they approve Tone's case, they could be sued by others that were declined previously for the same reason. It is not really as simple as we think.
It is more like strategic thinking versus shooting from the hip.

Has it been confirmed he didn't get the waiver or still no answer yet?

I asked Arkley on Twitter this weekend about that final scholarship and he said they were holding it for Tone or if he's not cleared for next year. I am not holding my breath but after some of the luck we had with Jaaron it would be amazing to get him back.

The NCAA allows so much junk to happen to the big programs it would be nice to see them allow a kid who has played every year of his career, worked his butt off to lose 40 to 50 pounds and graduate, to come back. A longshot but it would redeem the NCAA a little bit in my book.

Let's say he did get another year...wouldn't he be the next "gun for hire," a-la Jaaron?

That would be so great, "Campbell gets fifth year of eligibility, transfers to Cincinnati."

I don't believe a team would take Tone with his injury from last year in the back of their minds.

What we have in our advantage is that he won't be cleared until most team have used up all their scholarships. Cincinnati is full, but Xavier still has one open and he would be their starting center right away, despite the injury.

However, I doubt he gets a 6th year, and I doubt even more that he would transfer if he does get it.

If he were to transfer after getting a sixth year, wouldn't he have to sit out a year?

But I don't see Tony pulling something like that. He had the opportunity to transfer after Christian left but he stayed with Ohio. I think he sees Ohio as home.

Tony and Simmons do have a different history - this is Jaaron's 2nd transfer, where Tony is home grown.

He wouldn't have to sit out since he graduated. You can use the grad transfer rule in conjunction with a medical redshirt. Spike Albrecht did this last year. By the time he got his waiver approved Michigan was already at the limit so he ended up at Purdue instead.

2014-15: All-Southland 1st team (20.0 ppg and NCAA-best 7.7 apg)
2015-16: Injured knee in first game of season, required reconstructive knee surgery
