I'm amazed they haven't made that part of all-star weekend. I think that would be ten time more entertaining that the slam dunk contest.

As far as the Olympics go. I will watch things in the Olympics that I won't watch at any other point and be on the edge of my seat. I mean does anybody watch bobsled or curling and at any other point? The 3-on-3 will be compelling.

Thanks, bornacatfan for the information. Also, I happened to see a schedule of basketball events and ran across this: FIBA Men's 3x3 World Cup in Nantes, France, June 17-21. I guess this sport is much better organized than I realized. Wonder if this tournament will be streamed? I wouldn't mind checking it out.

Dude -- you just missed the Americas qualifier held at your very own Jackson Y -- you could've gone in person! :-)

Good one Joe. Jeff I think it is much better organized overseas than we realized. Like Triathlons and X games the Europeans seem to be able to take things we put together and survive at Grassroots (Gus Macker et al) levels and organize them with infrastructures and organizations with rules that are binding. FIBA has been involved as well giving the appearance of legitimacy when dealing with the IOC. We have a huge event this summer in Indy with $2500 top money to men's and women's winners. Billed as one of the biggest and most organized 3 on 3 I would not be surprised if the organizing committee is not angling to make Indy the center of the 3 on 3 world. The Indianapolis Sports Corp seems to ccarry on their mission from the 1980s gathering NGBs here.

3 on 3 playground basketball is bad enough but they're also adding:

1. BMX freestyle bike riding

2. Skateboarding

According to the Olympic Committee these events are aimed at the "youth and urban" markets.

They are also adding mixed (men and women) swimming and running events.

Thought this was why they had the X-games.

I seriously doubt it's going to be "playground" basketball. People take gold medals very seriously.

RP....RS is spot on, with the IOC it is ALL about the Dinero.

The rules, according to several sources:

1. 1/2 court

2. 10 minute time limit or first team to 21.
(Don't know if you have to win by "2")

3.1 and 2 point baskets.

Sounds like how we used to play on playgrounds.

Only thing different.

We used to joke about tiddlywinks becoming an Olympic sport, now it looks like it might be right in IOC's wheelhouse.

Well, I guess we won't be getting Olympic bass fishing any time soon then.
