I know we've done this before, but I always enjoy the conversation that comes from it. With the season right around the corner, let's talk about favorite basketball movies. I'll lead off with my two favorites:

The first, and most obvious is Hoosiers. It's on my watch list this week. My personal favorite though is Coach Carter. What are some others you like fellow 'Attackers?

I always try to watch a couple right before the season starts to get a little extra excitement for the season's start.

Hoop Dreams is a fantastic documentary if you get a chance to see it.

Blue Chips
Teen Wolf

Some of the recent ESPN 30 for 30's have become some of my favorite movies actually, probably because they are true.

Guru of Go - story of Paul Westhead and "the system" at Loyola Marymount

Unguarded - story of Chris Herren of BC/Fresno/NBA who struggled with drug addiction

Survive and Advance - story of Jimmy V and NC State

The Fab Five - story of Michigan's Fab Five

Didn't Jack Nicholson direct a college BBall movie called "Drive, He Said" in the 1970s - filmed on the OU campus and in the Convo?

Hoosiers is the gold standard (I still get goosebumps when Jimmy Chitwood says "I'll make it.") I liked Glory Road as well.

I like the movie with Billy Hoyal in it too!

But anyway this is how I rank my top 3 all-time:

1) Hoosiers

2) Blue Chips

3) Glory Road

Honorable mention:

Agreed and having visited and shot hoops in that gym, it will always be special to me.

Coach Carter is a little too Disneyfied for me, though they did make a conscious effort to cast actors who could actually play basketball, so the game scenes are believable. Glory Road is over the top Disneyfied.

My favorite is probably Love and Basketball.

Damnit, I always forget Love & Basketball.

Others I forgot to mention:

Above the Rim
30 for 30 "Without Bias"

Hoosiers. No doubt.

Glory Road was pretty good.

The TV show The White Shadow is underrated.

No - But I do believe in the Green Kool Aid...... :)

It only works though if consumed in moderation, and the occasional well timed Big Gulp.......

This is not a movie, but a book -- but it's real winner: One Basketball & Glory

In my opinion, this should be movie, or maybe an ESPN mini-series.

Newt Oliver, the author of One Basketbal & Glory, passed away earlier this week at the age of 93.
