The salary information above for Toledo's coach was published in The Blade in May of 2024. Groce at Akron is making 650 K and is eligible for a 75K retention bonus this summer to push him to over 700 K. Last season Sendek at Kent was making 375 K and his extension runs through 2028-29. Boals just renewed his contract. Anyone aware of what he is making? I have heard over 800 K. If so, Groce and Kowalczyk are underpaid. Ohio's administration had no problem rewarding the basketball coach, yet the most successful football coach the last four seasons in the league was the 6th highest paid in the MAC. Yep that makes sense!
There are multiple threads about Albin and his contract. Can we have a thread or two where you don't make this point? It's off topic here.

Thanks.
Just bringing to light that Ohio's basketball coach is at the top of the conference in compensation compared to other coaches in the MAC. Someone else posted his record vs Akron and Kent. The administration had no problem rewarding him.

Did Boals renegotiate his contract before or after he won a conference championship and NCAA tourney game?

And who did he negotiate it with? I'm really confused about that. Because Cromer is the "common denominator" in male employees not being paid well, and not being treated with dignity. So I guess Boals negotiated with somebody else. Who was that?

We know Toledo has won 12 of last 13 vs Ohio. Does anyone know what Boals record is vs the Zips and Kent? Guessing it is below .500??
Coach Boals record at Ohio against:

Toledo
0-4 home
0-4 away
1-1 mac tourney
1-9 overall

Akron
3-2 home
1-5 away
0-1 mac
4-8 overall

Kent St
4-2 home
1-3 away
1-1 mac
6-6 overall

Totals: 7-8 home, 2-12 away, 2-3 mac, 11-23 overall.

What's wild is Jeff's career record in the Convo is 69-15 for an 821 winning percentage. 2nd best all-time behind only RW Finsterwald who went 22-0 in 2 seasons.

Yet 8 of his 15 losses are accounted for right here.

He's 500 against Kent and won a MAC tourney game against them in 2021.

But truly, he can't beat Toledo for his life. His only win ever was the 87-80 victory in the 2021 MAC tournament.

Want to know something else crazy? Of his 4 home losses to Toledo, last night's 3 point loss was the closest he's come. The other losses were by 9, 9 and 18!

Amazing to really see the numbers here and the breakdown. Great research. I have no words. It has to be difficult for Boals to stomach all this…especially against Toledo. None of those nine losses to Toledo were against NCAA Tournament teams.

Tod K simply owns Boals.

Out of curiosity, are those the only MAC schools he has a 500 or sub 500 record against? Anybody know?

Pulled some data from sports-reference, and it looks like we also have a losing record against BG: 3-6 under Boals.

I did this quick, but think it's right:

Akron 4-8
Ball State 8-1
BG 3-6
Buffalo 8-3
CMU 9-0
EMU 6-2
Kent State 6-6
Miami 8-1
NIU 7-2
Toledo 1-9
WMU 6-2

Others we've played 3+ times OOC:

Marshal 1-4
Cleveland State 3-1
Detroit Mercy 2-1
MTSU 2-1

This is interesting. Is there some background info on male employees not being paid well? Is there similar info on Cromer not treating males well? Is this a thing? Some concrete evidence and examples would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

We're all waiting on Bobcat1996 to provide that evidence. There's a thread in Siberia now where he makes that claim without providing supporting evidence.

Toledo 1-9
WMU 6-2

Those are correct. Just breaking it down further:

Akron home: 3-2
Akron road: 1-5

Akron neutral: 0-1
Ball St home: 4-0
Ball St road: 2-1
Ball St neutral: 2-0
BG home: 3-2
BG road: 0-4

BG neutral: 0-0
Buffalo home: 3-1
Buffalo road: 4-2
Buffalo neutral: 1-0
CMU home: 4-0
CMU road: 4-0
CMU neutral: 1-0
EMU home: 4-0
EMU road: 2-2
EMU neutral: 0-0
Kent home: 4-2
Kent road: 1-3

Kent neutral: 1-1
Miami home: 5-0
Miami road: 3-1
Miami neutral: 0-0
NIU home: 5-0
NIU road: 2-2
NIU neutral: 0-0
Toledo home: 0-4
Toledo road: 0-4

Toledo neutral: 1-1
WMU home: 4-0
WMU road: 1-2
WMU neutral: 1-0

Home Total: 39-11 .780
Road Total: 20-26 .435
Neutral Total: 7-3 .700
Overall: 66-40 .623

Those highlighted in red are below his home/road average winning pct overall (i.e. those he's struggled with most)

As bad as Boals has been against Toledo, it’s equally astonishing Tod K hasn’t won a MAC tourney. Toledo reloads just as good as anyone, especially guards.

I thought we were a few poor shot choices and easy baskets not dropping away from winning. When we were down 72-76, we had numbers on the fast break and AJB pulled up for what would have been his third three in a row. I know he had the hot, hand but an easy dish for 2 could have kept the momentum. I don’t think it helped he hesitated on the shot, either.

Elliot’s a joy to watch. Evans just doesn’t seem ready, he got bodied so bad on that and one by Hubbard.

Overall, I like this brand and tempo of basketball a lot more than when we’re running our offense through AJC.

Sheldon’s mystery. It sucks because all you can do is hope he shoot’s his way out of it. After BRod never got his stroke back, it’s tough not to feel jaded about Sheldon.

It's all about the timing, Bobcat1996. Some have it. Some don't.
If his goal is to become the reverse Monroe, it's important to ruin each thread.
I guess because I give you facts, I'm ruining your thread. If someone gives a different point of view, some of you don't want to hear it. Boals won a three game conference tournament during Covid as a five seed. His best regular season finish is a three seed in his five plus seasons in Athens. He is the top paid conference coach and you people are elated! The administration is well aware of the same facts I gave everyone above. Try going to Amesville and buying some beach front property, because it is cheap this time of year. Evidently many of you are happy finishing as a third seed or worse every year.

Like I said a week ago… It’s the Solich program in basketball. Good but seldom defeating the big dogs
Casper- Frank Solich coached several more season than Boals has coached so far in Athens. However, Solich was 7-1 in the league his second season and tied Central Michigan for the top regular season record in 2006 before losing in Detroit in the title game. Solich was also 7-1 in 2009 and ended up as the two seed to Central Michigan before losing in Detroit in the championship game. Solich in his first four regular seasons ended up tied for first and also in second place in the regular season. Boals has a three seed as his highest regular season finish. One would think for what he is being paid, that this track record would be frowned upon.

Do you actually read the basketball board? Who here would you say is "elated" about Jeff Boals' performance? Look at the posts on this very page of posts. You think people pointing out his losing record against BG, Akron, and Toledo are elated? What are you even talking about?

Uhhh no he didn't.
