I had a good angle on Hadaway. He could not put weight on his left foot. They helped him hobble over to a trainer table near the Amron bench. He was very upset. They wrapped his foot and gave him crutches. After some time he finally got up and went to the locker room. It definitely did not look good.

If Hadaway & EJ miss a lot of time if not the season, we will see a heavy dose of Elliott & Evans.

Reef and Elliott showed up. Not a single other player showed up. AJC was awful but Vegas Vic showed his weakness against true athleticism. Pavs and Sheldon looked bored and can WE FINALLY STOP SAYING AJ BROWN IS A STUD??????? Dude is opportunistic like AJC.
Interesting take on AJ Brown he did have 15 points this game and probably won’t miss as many 3’s as he did today again if his 43% for the season stands for anything. The real problem is when PAV plays against athletic skilled guards he struggles to manage and control the offense which leads to a dysfunctional game like today where there was a lot of out of rhythm misses and Shots. The team will take this game as a learning lesson and will bounce back against EMU hopefully!!

"Not sure if there's a better frosh in the MAC than Akron guard Sharron Young."

This kid is a great guard from Morgantown WV. Ohio missed the boat on this player.
Quick shot artist for sure and some sick drives BUT.
Some on here complain of Bobcat defense. In the second half, Elliott and Reef ate this kid as an appetizer. If he played 35 minutes he'd have two opponents each score over 20 a game on him.

I had a great seat three rows behind the Bobcat bench. I was disappointed in AJB's game. In the first half, he caught several passes in the corner and then made nice moves towards the elbow and then got into the paint. There, it looked like he jumped about 6 inches off the floor and shot from his hip. Can't we get a little Ali Ali out of him and see him taking it up high by the rim and floating them in?

I see Elliott playing that way, his second half baseline drive and score was right in the face of a Zip big--sweet play!

No way this team on paper is as good as last year's edition. The point guard replacing the point guard graduating brought a SIGNIFICANT drop in talent to the floor along with a lot less defense.

Less than full Hadaway and no EJ tonight…..No Evans.

Staff either made a mistake on him or cant coach him up. Pick your poison.

He can’t be that bad.

Like I said early on, I did not see this game. But, given the score. It’s obvious that we don’t play defense. But that’s been the case all of year against decent teams really. As for the offense, it just seems to me. There’s no organization to it. It’s basically one on one all the time. So, like I said earlier, we’re getting in Solich football type stuff. We’re good not great, we beat cream puffs, but we can’t beat talented teams. I continue to say we are just not athletic enough. We need some long lean athletic players. I think we may have IQ guys we just don’t have athletes.

Didn't see the game but will watch it later. Looking at the stats, 8 assists is all I need to know.

Yep

After further thinking, I will cut OUr boys some slack as they may have been emotionally affected by Elmore news coming perhaps as a shock. Would be hard to shake off the emotions one might feel after going to battle with a guy for nearly three years and then to have him suddenly not suited up with you.

I didn’t see the stats, but I rest my case if we only had eight assists. To score 80 points and only have eight assist is unbelievable. We may have got to the free line but that just means as I also said we play way too much one on one basketball. Defense is the same thing. We are not good as a team. Some of the individuals may be good, but as a team, they are poor.

We've hit our ceiling with this coaching staff.
This probably seems like an aggressive take, but I tend to agree. We’ll always be competitive under this staff, but I’m not seeing a breakthrough to a dominant MAC team.

It’s lightning in a bottle in March/hope for the best.

I said I would not overreact but it is the way we lost. Selfish basketball on offensive end and no toughness on defensive end. I love AJB and AJC but they both looked scared--AJB had 15 points that never mattered. Why is Evans not playing? Give him a chance. And Elliott better get more time now. Prayers Hadaway and EJ4.

Unbelievable! Does this mean that he was smart enough to not want to play against Akron, but he'll be back the next time we play a creampuff?

This is where I am. Akron loss doesn’t bother me, but it’s how we lost. It’s almost like we knew we had no chance as soon as the ball was thrown up in the air.

And I really hate going there, but we looked incredibly soft. Akron was way more athletic than us. And how many back door cut layups? 8? It was so embarrassing on the defensive end. We didn’t want to be there last night.

I have no idea what AJ Clayton was doing on the court last night. No preseason conference player of the year should look that bad and lost against one of the best teams in the conference. I said in the preseason that I was worried about all the stupid talk about him being on NBA draft boards. His inconsistency is maddening. There just seems to be no in between with his offense. It’s either 20+ points or 6-8 points. Clayton needs to give himself a Tim Tebow speech moving forward. He disappears more often than not against Akron, Toledo and Kent.

No doubt Groce is Boals Daddy. 8-4 all-time vs Boals. If he makes the tournament again this year that’s four times out of eight years in the Groce era at Akron. And really four times in seven years because 2020 was wiped out because of Covid.

Probably more of a “hey, Shereef beat up on Ball State. You’re coming off the bench again.” Which I think Elmore should start but that’s me.
Boals sending a message with Clayton on bench. Time to stop calling AJ a "star." He is a very good player. Elliott looking comfy at least.
My perception has been, and I told a fellow BAer this a few days ago, that Clayton is good at three-point shotoing in games against creampuffs, where we are heavily favored, but his percentage is way lower in higher-profile games. Perhaps, someone has actually stats on that, but that is my gut impression, and it's certain true tonight.
Looking at his game log on the year, AJC has 5 games this season where he’s scored single digits. He’s 1/18 from 3 in those games.

As it relates to higher profile games, he’s 2/21 from 3 against JMU, Memphis, MTSU, and Akron. Outside of MTSU where he had 18 points, the rest were single-digits outings.

AJC is what he is. He’s a catch a shoot guy who can get hot, but isn’t someone to run an offense through. This isn’t because he doesn’t have the ability, he just doesn’t seem to want to play like a BVP — for example.

Unfortunately, since his offensive value is so dependent on 3’s, it’s always going to be Jekyll and Hyde with him as evidenced in the above games.

I agree with this assessment. The problem is that Boals chooses to run the offense through him, and nobody else is really capable. A lot of people here hate on Pavs, but he's really the only person who consistently tries to make things happen and step into that void. Reef, who now is looking more healthy, looked like he was trying to last night.

Numbers against the big boys don’t lie. And no pre-season conference player of the year should have five games at the half-way point scoring in single digits.

Not sure where you think Groce has made it 3 times with Akron. Akron won 2 of the last 3 MAC Championships behind Enrique Freeman. That was the only 2 Groce has won at Akron, in fact the only championship games he has made it to. The previous 11 years before Groce, Akron made it to 9 of the 11 MAC Championship games.
