UW Green Bay has announced that they are hiring FOX Radio host Doug Gottlieb as their next head coach. He has no prior head coaching experience and in a weird move will continue to do his radio show while he coaches. Doug's father Bob was coach at UW-Milwaukee for five years from 1975-80. Doug was passed over for this job last year and his brother Gregg also interviewed for this same job in 2020.

I'll keep my opinion to myself on this one but...LOL.

Have my feelings about Doug Gotlieb, but sports these days are as much a sideshow as they are anything. I like the hire. It might crash and burn, but probably no worse than anyone else who has to coach at that level.

He'll get players to UW Green Bay that wouldn't normally even open the envelope, just because he has a huge platform on the internet.

Deion Sanders if he never had talent.

For a school of that size, they might actually have a path to some NIL cash now.

Yea, I was just about to say the x's and o's part might be iffy. However, if Gotlieb is maintaining his radio show (with sponsors), he's going to land talent that normally wouldn't go UWGB with NIL money to offset any coaching shortcomings.

It seems odd on the surface, but in a pay to play era it actually could work...enough, for UWGB.

I get what you're saying, but where's the cult following that Gottlieb is gonna bring from his radio show that Deion was able to build through social media? You could probably pull some random recruits out of the gym and ask who Doug Gottlieb was and they probably wouldn't even know. To quote the Shaq meme "I wasn't really familiar with your game."

Now, the Lakers are considering ESPN announcer and recently retired player JJ Reddick to be their new coach? Unless they are floating intentional misinformation.

Good lord.

Also see that Moon hired Saul Phillips at Northern State. Wonder if he got a look for this job considering the Bennett connections.

Sounds like a "F it, let's give it a shot and see what happens" move. Can't say I blame them. Worst case scenario you burn a few years being non-competitive, which is probably the most likely scenario with traditional hires anyway.

Coaching is easy, anyone can do it. The radio and FB guy have years of experience, let’s hire them! (It’s sarcasm for those who ain’t figured that out yet.

Gotta wonder what Dick Schorr could have done with the Bobcats if he had been hired instead of Dale Bandy.

It depends. Would he have continued doing his weekly "Bowling for Dollars" TV show while coaching OUr Bobcats?

This is what I thought when they hired Will Ryan.

No hatred. I just don't enjoy the fact that he's taking a quality job away from a legitimate coach who has worked their butt off to get to a position to apply for that job. All in the name of "business", which I get. But, I hope they lose every game because of it.

A player who has already bounced around and played in three games for OK State before jumping ship.

If you're GB, you take the upside of the add all day at this transfer stage. Gottleib played at OK State; I'm sure he has enough connections down there to have done diligence. Worth the risk imo for GB.

Just wanted to circle back to this. They haven't lost every game, but damn close to it(2-11). Lost to a D-2 yesterday after calling them "Nobody U".

You just hate to see it...

I laughed so hard.

I love a giant piece of sweet humble pie. "Nobody U" just took you to the woodshed, my brother.

Side Note, wasn't BVP's brother the athletic director or an assistant at some point or something? Maybe I made that up in my head. I swear I remember something about maybe his brother coaching there and being super young.
