Heading out to Athens for this weekend.
This will be the first time in a few years my wife and I will have a chance to see a basketball game in person.
Really looking forward to it,including seeing how the team looks.

Looking forward to getting to town for the first game that counts. Jackie O's beforehand, college basketball on TV the night before, travelling to Charleston a few days later...hoops is finally here.

For us it will be Jackie O's after the game.
Then the Varsity Show with the 110.

I was hoping for a “Fake Jeff” preview by now…

Don’t sleep on the Bulldogs! Their 350 (out of 351) KenPom rating belies a championship spirit that led to two impressive victories last year. Hailing out of the SWAC – arguably the premier D1 conference – the Bulldogs will come to Athens primed to pull the upset.

Someone in the chat room for the Toledo football game, who said he was quoting FakeJeff, said that Alabama A&M was projected to be the most improved team in the nation for 2017-18. Fear the Dawgs! Better be ready for the challenge presented by this Morrill Act Land Grant institution.

Absolutely!!! Even crazier is that almost every other game with a 2 pm start is casting. This includes the women’s games!!! Amazing isn’t it? Actually, why are we even surprised?

This is likely the fault on OU's end rather than ESPN 3. OU's online broadcasts have always been spotty at best.

Should have stayed at Jackie O's - that was terrible.

I am absolutely shocked by the amount of people who are so down after this game. A win is a win but a win in the team's first game without Jaaron and then you toss in Carter being out. What was seen today was toughness and a group of guys who have never been "the man" in their careers. Mickle was a 10 minute guy for FGCU. DT was 10 minutes a game and Kirk and Gollon are both practically newbies. Toss in Laster, Dartis and Block being just complimentary players their whole careers and you have a team trying to find its identity. I am happy with this win. Are we going to get run in Charleston? Probably...but the goal isn't an at-large. It's a MAC title. Even without JC we are right there with most MAC teams.

This game could only have been more embarrassing if we lost, which we almost managed to do. A&M was not a good team, putting it mildly. We let them back into the game at the end when it should have turned into a 25 point rout. Team needs to learn that you don’t push the ball and force shots when it’s time to sit on the ball at the end of the game – wow! Ok, we won and I know we have potential so I won’t have a complete meltdown.

Defense was pretty solid but there was little offense. Missed open 10 footers all day long. Without Carter, nobody picked it up on the offensive end. And nobody’s scoring off the dribble except Kirk.

Dartis needs to find a way to get off more catch-shoot shots;
Doug, be a beast and just go up with the ball when you’re underneath the hoop;
Kirk, a very nice freshman pickup; hopefully he has an outside shot but he never looked for it today and it was there at times.

We definitely have potential but need Carter and the 4 freshmen if we plan to make some noise this year.

Nongame observations:

The NO Zone continues to be pathetic. Don’t recall ever seeing it this bad when school is in session. I counted 15 people in the middle 2 student sections at tipoff, maybe 60 later on; and mostly empty season ticket holder seats too. Buckeye football?

Great to have the former players back but a poorly planned (?) halftime show. Could have given all these men a little more recognition. I mean, there were some MAC POY out there! The only people who knew the former players were sitting on the other side and all we saw was their backs the entire ceremony. Who’s running the show out there? Bush league, I’m sorry. Surprised to see Jeremy Fears in the house. Did he actually graduate from here as he was here less than 2 years if I recall correctly.

Finally, the giveaway for season ticket holders of the replica Convo, made in China, is a piece of crap; my wife plans to return it next game.

kirk is fears' nephew or cousin. im sorry i that i cant remember which.

i think we all expected growing pains, even against one of the lower rated D1 schools at our house.

on the positive side the team didnt give up many points so i assume the defensive effort was there? i only listened to game so i couldnt tell.
