According to a friend who scours the web and is a big OSU fan, Chris Holtman told a booster group recently that he'd like to play as many as 3 Ohio schools every year. Presumably, at least one would come from the Cinci/X/Dayton triumvirate, with the others coming from the MAC and Horizon League.

This is as good of a time as any to attempt to have that "Ohio Classic" many fans like myself have drooled over.

I must say, the man in Columbus is earning my respect. If he ever agrees to home-and-homes with MAC schools again like it used to be back in the 90's.....I don't know of a school in the state that could hate them at that point. I get it we may hate them for other things, but they used to go on the road in-state frequently and hope it gets back to that day again.

Of course this is a pipedream.....but one can hope again.

December of '73 or '74 if memory serves me.

They went to toledo once in 1999 as a favor to one player from that area. When else did that happen?

Holtman and Butler were part of an Indiana schools tournament, including ND, Purdue and IU. Maybe he saw some value in that annual event and we can get something similar here in Ohio.

Count me in on the respect for what they're getting done. I always kinda rooted for them with Thad. I can foresee a little stronger interest with Coach Holtmann.

As for hating them - I only hate during football season (which is extremely easy). Then I make fun of the "big OSU fans" that disappear two days after the bowl game is over.

Holtmann's assistant Ryan Pedon just became my neighbor, buying the house of some good friends of ours who moved to Texas for work. I haven't gotten a chance to meet him yet but when I do you can guarantee I'll obnoxiously suggest a home & home with the Bobcats.

Ryan is a good guy. Walk over and say hi. He is truly one of the good guys in College hoops, Tommy got close to him at Illinois and then at Butler....there is a reason Chris keeps him close by...

They could really use it from a fan interest standpoint. Dayton and X are basketball schools but OSU is a football school where fans are fickle if not in the Top 10.

Haha, excellent work guys. I do not own any gnomes or dogs but I may need to invest in them.

We're just making sure you're prepared for the operation Bobcat Attack has given you. Remember, this message board is depending on you to get a home and home. Do this, and you will be as immortal as the person who invented Goodfellas Pizza or the Burrito Buggy.

You know, if I was Xavier, Dayton, or Cincinnati, I might decline this request. What's in it for them?

Actual in-state supremacy for a change. Since OSU has wanted to avoid them to keep themselves to look to be the best, the other 3 would want to look the best in-state. If I were them I'd want at Ohio State, especially for the gate revenue.

Shoot I would be happy with a 2 for 1 deal with OSU basketball. Just getting them to the Convo would be a feat and would be for a crazy environment.

He is a super friendly guy, I say you gained a good neighbor. One of those 'never met a stranger' types. And with his past (Fiami, Toledo, Groce) he knows his way around the MAC too.

Big Ten going to a 20-game conference schedule so the opportunity to play the big boys just got tougher.

I can't imagine some coaches, or fans or those teams are thrilled about this.

Against good name schools like UC, X, Dayton, OU/Akron/Kent etc. I would think that OSU student interest might be stronger than non-conference games against schools with no regional connection. But the general population of Columbus and/or those willing to travel to The Schott who are fans/alumni of these schools could also buy a lot of tickets as the chance of a victory over the Buckeyes is a lot greater in hoops than football.

The attendance for games against these schools should be a lot greater than say a slate featuring St. Peters, UTEP, Utah Valley State and Alabama A&M.

Still would love to see some kind of "Capital Classic" doubleheader at Nationwide Arena or even The Schott, featuring 4 Ohio teams. I'd like to think Ohio playing say X/Dayton at Nationwide could very well have a lot of green in the seats. Columbus has the highest volume of Ohio Alumni bar none-yes?

I can certainly see the risk involved though, too of an underwhelming turnout if the opponent was not right. Did anyone on here go the game against UC at the Q in Cleveland in I believe 2006? Did that have a good Ohio showing?

Just curious what the student attendance at the Schott looks like and how many fans they draw on a regular basis for hoops.

When I was in Iowa I always marvelled how far fans would drive on a weeknight to Iowa City and then turn around and drive home to Ft Dodge, Souix City, Ottumwa or Spirit Lake. Illinois was much the same, Indiana is a given and Mich St has been pretty constant. I am wondering how tO$U draws regularly for basketball as I have honestly never been and never really cared to look.

Reading the post above piqued my interest
