A Saturday night game a Marshall? Ugh. Safe travels to the team and fans. Driving those hills late on a Saturday night heading back to Athens can be tricky.

Nice share, read all four pages, nice to see OCF representing, and very reminiscent of a couple of different threads we see here regularly, all rolled up into one thread. Liked the discussion on what they are finding entertaining (or not) in product on the field/court.

Marshall decision to leave the MAC was a complete disaster for their program. They failed to see the moving landscape. MAC has been able to retain its core schools tru the realignment era.

Marshall made a big mistake in departing the MAC. Many MAC fans don't like the Tuesday-Thursday football week night games, but Marshall probably wishes it could be playing in our league again. When UCF was in MAC football for a few seasons the travel was not ideal, but schools didn't have to go to Orlando but once every other season. Marshall traveling to Texas for all sports is not exactly a bus ride to Kent, Athens, Oxford or Akron.

What hills are you referring to? Seems fairly flat on Route 2.

Since we're on the subject and we just played the other team on Sunday...

...imagine a MAC that expands by adding Marshall to its East roster and Western Kentucky to the West roster.

Won't happen, but gimme that any day.

Stick on the Ohio side and take Route 7. Fewer trucks/idiots trying to pass when they shouldn't.

However, on Rt. 2 you avoid the Athalia speed trap, says he who learned the hard way. ;-)

They’d both be very good additions. Wouldn’t hurt to have more “southern” schools in the winter.

Athalia no longer has a police officer. In fact, they no longer have a village council, as literally no one picked up a petition to run this past election. So long as it's not a statey, you're good.

But yes, Lawrence County has Hanging Rock on one end and Athalia on the other. Welcome!

As a one-time resident of Chesapeake, I'm glad to learn of the demise of Athalia. Both i and my father on different occasions were given tickets for going 50 MPH in a 35 MPH zone through that burg. Are you a native of Lawrence County? Just curious.

For those attending the game at Marshall on Saturday you might want to be aware of the football viewing event going on inside the Cam prior to the game.

http://www.herdzone.com/genrel/121117aad.html?hq_e=el&hq_...

Also, if you don't want to pay the $35 price for a seatback ticket at the Cam there is another option. They have a family pack of 4 general admission seats for just $35 that also gives you a $20 concession voucher to use for the game. I'd say chances are good that one may be able to move to a seat in the lower bowl area after the game begins with this being the holiday season. Those family pack tickets must be purchased prior to gameday however.

If you want to purchase the family pack online use the following link and use the promo code HERDFAMILY:

It seems reasonable to me to be ticketed for going 50 in a 35 zone😏.

You apparently have never been through Athalia. You blink, you miss it. ;-)

I got one of the two speeding tickets I've ever received in Hanging Rock while going to Marshall for a game.

Speaking of speed traps.

Before they built the bi-pass,Nelsonville was the worst.

The first time I went back to Athens, years after I went to O.U., my wife and I were driving from Columbus.

I had told her about Nelsonville and where the cops used to "hide".

As soon as we hit the reduced speed zone, there was a cop hiding behind a billboard.

Some things never change.

I've gone back and forth on letting Marshall back into the MAC.

My problem with them is they try to act like they are the Texas of the MAC. Quite frankly, I don't have time for that bull****, especially when they are the ones that left the MAC when they had it made. Would they elevate the level of play in the MAC? Sure, for football and some years basketball. But they made their bed when they left. I am in the camp of let them rot out on the pole, sure shows how many times they schedule MAC teams on their football schedule how badly they miss us all.

My $ says they end up back in the MAC - or whatever conference re-alignment/new conference we potentially end up in. The benefit to both is just so obvious vs other potential options - no matter how much either would want to deny that

I dont think theyll ever be back in the MAC. I never hear of any interest in that among administrators or fans. They still think that long term, they are in a better situation than the MAC can provide them.

Jeff, I know that we both have Huntington connections, but I'm getting different vibes from several of my friends there. Over the last year or so, there seems to be a growing realization that C-USA was kind of "fools gold." It looked good for awhile but when examined closely it's luster seems to diminish, particularly with some of the defections to the AAC. I do think, though, that they would only come back into a MAC that was restructured in some way -- kicking out some dead-weight and adding a few "better" teams.

W KY and Marshall are birds of a feather and have no business being in the MAC.
We are an honorable conference and don't need the outlaw element.
