Butler showed he is more talented that some upper class players. Need to see more of him. He seems confident and talented. Anyone else agree?

I'm liking the way he is trending these last few games.

I agree that he is trending up and do think that he will be a dynamic player by year's end, but who is he outplaying? Dartis? No. Laster? DEFINITELY NOT! Block? The guy does everything. Kirk? Nope. Gollon? Maybe last night but not until last night.

Butler will be a key piece but to say he's outplaying the guys listed above is ludicrous.

Gollon is my opinion...not comfortable on the floor.

I'm going to disagree. I've been very impressed by Gollon. The eight guys that have played this year all belong. Every single one of them is a player. We just aren't a team on either end of the court right now. On defense it seems like one guy (or more) falls asleep on every possession. If the other team moves the ball enough they are getting wide open looks every time. On offense we have our moments but much of the time there's just too much dribbling of the basketball. Some of that is that we don't have an interior scoring threat right now. Hopefully when Jason Carter comes back it will force teams to pay attention down low and open up the perimeter a little. But right now we aren't a very good basketball team. Doesn't mean we can't get there as the new parts grow into their roles but we've got a long way to go.

By the way, I agree that Butler needs more minutes. You can see his confidence growing with each game and he's got something we need which is a true PG mentality.

+1 I've been very impressed with Gollon. He's got a lot of hustle and plays tremendous D (very few drive bys). I also think Butler outplayed Kirk last night. Very under control and showed some athleticism getting rebounds.

I'm with everyone above - I really like Butler, but he's not taking minutes from Gollon right now because they are the only two bench players. And there's no way he's better that Dartis, Block, Laster, Kirk at the moment.

I really like the depth and versatility all the guards/wings give OUr guys once the bigs get healthy.

So questions, when OHIO gets healthy, who's losing minutes? Carter is the bell cow, he's going to get his. So who loses minutes? There are only 200 in a regulation game.

I think you're going to see a drop in just about anyone's minutes since the rotation of bodies will be better. You wont see Mike, Jordy or Gavin's numbers take a huge hit, but they certainly won't be asked to do what they are doing now.

Gavin Block, Mike Laster and Jordan Dartis haven't played fewer than 30 minutes in any game this year. Block and Laster are averaging 37.5 (Dartis 37.2) minutes per game with a low of 33. I can see the three losing about 4 mpg just so they aren't dead come February and March. I think the minutes will be determined by matchups. Block, Laster, Kirk and even Gollon give us some versatility since they can all play several spots. What will be interesting is who is coming off the bench when Carter returns.

Butler had a couple of really bad games early but the last couple have been very good. It seems he's making progress. A lot of guys are providing better consistent minutes than they were earlier.

I’m trying to figure out what really bad games Butler has had ? He didn’t get a chance to play and make mistakes . He can give us more he wasn’t given the opportunity to go play his game . He’s an unselfish ball player that can score in many ways . He’s going to be fine u just watch . Zach’s a lot better than our Bobcats fans realize.

I'll agree there. I don't think he got the time to prove what he could, plus it was his first couple of college games. Let the guy adjust to the flow of the college game.

Also , I noticed on tv and on the Bobcats website Kirk , Dartis an Butler are all listed at 6ft3. Butler is at least an 1 inch taller than both of them . I stood next to him recently and he’s at least 6ft4.

What I don’t want to happen is Butler gets frustrated and feels that he’s being lefty out . Next year I can’t see him being a backup. Kirk and Butler will have to play together or we risk losing Butler . The kid can play and he would be attractive to a lot of programs even at a higher level. I feel he and Kirk is definitely our future backcourt but Butler isn’t going to wait 3 years.

I remember when Robotham and Jackson were freshmen. They were a very good duo. Brought a tremendous amount of energy and athleticism to Akron's team that year when guard depth needed to be found. I think Butler and Kirk can be that for us in MAC play. I can see them playing with Dartis, Block and Carter in a small lineup that can shoot combine drivers and shooters.

I wouldn't say he had bad games but you can just see his confidence growing by game. He was a little tentative in earlier games. Last night was the first game where he really looked like the player I saw on video from last year. You could almost see it in his face. I would love to see both he and Kirk on the floor at the same time.

Butler definitely looked more confident last night. If he starts hitting threes, look out.

Really liked Butler and Kirk on the floor at the same time too. Would love to see more of that.

Obviously it was a small sample size, (as are the last 2 games) but the first 4 games he scored 5 points in 29 minutes with 1 rebound, 0 assists, 4 turnovers, 4 fouls. The last 2 games, he's played 37 minutes, scored 20 points and has had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 turnovers, 2 fouls.

Looking at our backcourt recruits under Saul...
From the 2014 class Ryan Taylor transferred. From the 2016 class Rodney Culver transferred. Both received some PT as freshman but not enough for their liking and they ended up transferring after just one season.

On the flip side you look at two guys starting now, Mike Laster and Gavin Block. Both played regularly but neither have started regularly until now. Yet here they are as crucial starters on this team. Considering we return Block and Dartis next year (while only Laster graduates) playing-time won't be easy to come by but I hope Butler doesn't get discouraged. He's shown some great ability so far and he seems like a perfect compliment to Kirk when Block and Dartis do graduate. I cannot wait to see Kirk and Butler tearing it up as juniors like Dartis and Block are right now. That could be a very special tandem.

First of all Block isn’t a guard , Butler is a guard . Block is playing well but we will be playing too slow with him at the guard position over an athletic guard that’s quicker and more dynamic. Block is a small forward.

Lasiter is graduating so what does Block have to do with a guard replacing Lasiter ?
