It seems the basketball gods rewarded our effort from yesterday with a better opponent to boost our non-conf resume. In the immortal words of one Matthew David McConaughey:

Do you really think that our non-conference schedule needs a boost for any reason? There's no way we are getting an at-large bid. Maybe next year if we return everyone healthy. I see this year as, hopefully, a 15-win team with .500 in the MAC and perhaps an upset in the MAC Tourney.

But next year if they all return we could feature Jason Carter, Dartis, Block, Doug and Kirk along with a healthier Gollon and an array of 4-men who can shoot with BVP, AJ Gareri, Nate Springs and Mason McMurray. Not to mention a year of experience from Butler to go with what I hope is a graduate transfer with our final scholarship.

A more interesting opponent maybe but Hofstra is the better team IMO.

That being said I'm concerned about Xeyrius Williams and Kostas Antetokounmpo.

I gotcha. I was more commenting on the MAC's lack of at large bids as a whole. Not really against your post. Sorry.

We lost the rebound, assist, blocks and steals battle. We will get better. We have to shoot better than 41% from the foul line as well.I like this nonconference schedule, our issues are being exposed so that we can correct them.

If you would have told me earlier this year that we would lose Simmons, and Carter would be out for a while, I would have thought we would not only be winless at this point, but thoroughly drubbed in the process. Yet, we put a scare into Clemson and gave Dayton a game. We have a long way to go, but at least we are a hopeful work in progress.

I completely agree. I know it is an exercise in futility to say "what if" but JC being out there gives us at the very least 10 more points and 6 to 10 more boards (less for the other team). Kirk, Mickle, Gollon and Doug are growing up quick. Darty, Laster and Block are leaders we thought they would be.

It's surprising that a Division 1 college basketball team shoots 41% from the line in a game. Missing front ends of 1 and 1s is too common for us.

i am encouraged by the non blowouts vs big conference teams.

but the ball handling and passing are no bueno.

we definitely need to value the possession and the basketball more. awfully careless at times on the offensive end.

I'm just as worried about the help defense and the complete lack of rebounding awareness. That game last night was hard to watch. We've got four guys running the offense and four guys doing their own thing. If I see one more guy try a difficult one-on-three layup with Jordan Dartis or Gavin Block wide open at the arc I'm going to throw my shoe through the screen. I don't care how much jelly you have.

Rant done. We have plenty of talent but Saul has his work cut out for him getting the new guys to play the game his way.
