W KY and Marshall are birds of a feather and have no business being in the MAC.
We are an honorable conference and don't need the outlaw element.

Hmm . . . and this is being posted from Youngstown? smiley wink surprise

There is a rumor that both Conference USA and the Sun Belt are going to fold. Then the teams from these leagues are going to form 3 new regionally based leagues. Marshall would be in a league with OLD Dominion, Charlotte, Appalachin State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, FAU and FIU.

AD's from both Old Dominion and Southern Miss have supported this idea. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years.

That is interesting. Might improve things for Marshall.

I think that's an unfair overgeneralization. Current coaches at Marshall have upgraded the culture.

Marshall used to live and die by the three, but now they can win without it. They beat Chattanooga while going 1 of 16 from three. They wreak havoc by their guards getting in the lane. Also, their big man Penava has been on a roll lately.

Defensively, they are spotty, but can cause problems at key moments when they extend the defense and disrupt passing lanes.

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but here's something I read recently talking about the disaster that is CUSA. I can't imagine how much the travel budget eats up a school like Marshall vs Ohio.

One great thing about the MAC is the proximity of members. Helps rivalries, and travel schedules & $$. Even if Marshall went to a league like one suggested above, they'd still probably have double the travel costs, for no rivalry, and no better competition. They screwed up leaving the MAC.

This should be a really good game. The interesting match up will be Taylor/Penava. If Peneva has a big game Ohio could be in trouble. Marshall is thin on the inside which could help Taylor have a big game. Both teams guards have the potential to score a ton of points tonight.

Will DT allow Penava, who will give up 40-50 pounds, to push him around near the basket?

The Laster slam was our best dunk of the last three years.

Jesus. Another tough loss and more injuries. Can we see this team at full strength for once? Hard not to be impressed with how they keep fighting adversity. Just awful luck at this point.

We are cursed. I really believe we are cursed. I blame Jim Christian. I feel like we were on an upward trajectory and he just came in and squashed it and now we're cursed :)

All joking aside. I truly hope Laster and Carter are able to play to start MAC. We don't need them to beat Prairie View and Portsmouth A&M. What a gritty job by guys like Mickle and Kirk alongside Darty's return. I know people were sad to see Jaaron leave but man has Kirk stepped up.

Laster had some hamstring issues, but it didn't sound like Saul was that concerned about it. He didn't sound as hopeful for Jason.

If Carter misses significant time you really have to question what the staff is thinking. You don’t need Carter for December/January. You need a 100% or close to 100% Carter for February/March.

Or...and I know people on here don't want to hear this...you redshirt him. I still think that with a rotation of Laster, Block, Dartis, Kirk, Butler, Mickle, Doug and Gollon we can compete with ANY team in the MAC. Heck, I would even redshirt BVP and Gareri if they're not 100 percent. I hate to think that we wasted a year of Mickle and Laster but considering how well we played in the non-league against great competition with all these injury issues I feel good redshirting Jason.

Which is why he's been held to limited minutes. They are getting him in game shape for MAC play. He only played 7 minutes tonight and according to Arkley, it's possible he reaggravated it Friday in practice. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised by a redshirt if the injury is this problematic. I would rather have 4 full years of Jason Carter than 3.25 or 3.5.

And as 1998 said, it's a shame because Mickle and Laster are playing out of their minds already this season. Mike deserves a successful senior year and I hope this injury luck somehow turns in our favor when 2018 hits.

That was a fun game to watch. Both teams played hard. Thought the Bobcats were going to win when they forced overtime. It would be fun to watch these two play a best of 7 series

Marshall wins 99-96. Here's a look at the last possession. Guessing this wasn't the plan https://t.co/v3IekeF0dt&mdash ; Jimmy Watkins (@JimmyWatkins95) https://twitter.com/JimmyWatkins95/status/942231038436216...
Better question is why did Marshall not foul Kirk with 3 seconds left....up 3? Makes no sense why these coaches allow a 3 to go up in these situations. NONE.

If you watched that video of the last second shot and the D Marshall played, you can see why they didn't foul. Our play to get a good shot just wasn't there.

I don't know Alan...I've seen a ton of miracle 3's go in at the buzzer to tie games up in those situations. Why even risk it?

I agree, FearLeon, I told my wife that if I was the Marshall coach I would have fouled about the mid-court line. Worse case scenario, from the Marshall coach's perspective: OHIO makes both foul shots and Marshall has possession of the ball with five or six seconds on the clock and a one point lead. Then we foul them with about four seconds to go. Worse case scenario: Marshall misses both shots. They still have a one point lead and OHIO has to get the ball down court and get off a shot in four seconds. Very, very unlikely that a desperation shot like that is successful. In fact, in very many cases like this the inbounds pass or the next pass gets intercepted. I do see the other side of the argument, but to me your odds are better if you foul in these situations before the three is taken.
