Somewhere in the upside down there is a world where John Groce stayed, Caris Lavert arrived, and the Long-Ohio-NCAA-Tournament-darlings-train kept runnin and I am one happy Bobcat....
People always look at LeVert as the one that got away but I would have taken 4 years of Evan Bradds over him any day. Bradds would have been All-MAC for at least 3 years and POY at least one year. Great kid, great teammate and just seemed like someone solid to build around.
I see your point...but we had both.

More positives from last night:

-Dougie is becoming a defensive force in the paint with five more blocked shots last night. He leads in the MAC in blocks per game right now, in case anyone didn't know that. I was surprised to see he didn't score, but when all the guards are as hot as they were I guess you don't really need him to last night.

-Can't say enough about Jordy's shooting. It opened up a whole realm of other possibilities for the offense when Akron tried their damndest to focus on him. A couple times he hit some wide open shots and I'm thinking to myself "how do they keep letting him get THAT wide open?"

-Gavin another good all around game (14-5-4) and improved his free throws (5/7).

-Jimmy G another solid shooting night off the bench (3/5 from three, 4/4 free throws). Nice to have another hot shooter come on the floor in case someone else isn't hitting.

-Zach B another night struggling to score, but still ended the night with a line of 7-3-3 and ZERO turnovers. Gotta love him taking care of the ball.

-Team shot 82% from the FT line. Much, much better boys!

-19 assists on 32 made baskets

-Defensively held Akron to 6/26 from three

-Crowd seemed really engaged even if they were small, but hard not to love the hot hand that Jordan had last night. Glad he got a much deserved standing ovation.

Negatives:

-Few too many turnovers even in a blowout. Sometimes the team likes to get a head of steam and go 1 on 2/3/4 and gets caught in no man's land. Trying to make too many wow plays and be a little too aggressive isn't how this group excels. Just pull the ball out, chew some clock and get a better look.

-Still have lapses of poor help side D that lead to some easy looks and/or 2nd chance points off a missed shot and offensive rebound for the other team. You can get away with it when you're beating a team by 20+ but that needs to be shored up for those tight game situations.

Interesting perspective on Doug Taylor from Groce during Akron's post game radio interview.

He said they did a "terrible" job of exploiting Taylor's tendency to leave his feet on the defensive end. "We knew he leaves his feet every time, yet we let him get away with it."

My bet with his guys and another year of coaching, that won't happen next year. As frustrated as Groce was at Illinois at times this has to be really frustrating for him.

I really cannot explain just how awesome last night was.

This is my busy season and I had to really talk myself into taking the time to go.

One of my favorite nights in the convo ever.

Can we find another nickname when referencing James Gollon other than "Jimmy G"? I swear, every time I see this it takes me 5 minutes to figure out who the heck you're talking about (there is no Jimmy on our roster) - and why in the world Jimmy Garoppolo is being discussed on an OU basketball message board.

Lou calls him this over the PA. I think I've heard Saul call him Jimmy once or twice also.

. . . and "G" rhymes with "3", just like "Theismann" can be made to rhyme with "Heisman".

Then somebody tell "Sweet Lou" to come up with something else. Otherwise we're going to be seeing "Jimmy G - For 3!, asterisk NOT the San Francisco 49ers Quarterback"

Just call him JG3NSF49QB.

I still call him James but have heard several refer to Jimmy G. Not sure why we are finding that so offensive, confusing or irritating. Seems like not a big deal. Stevie Fresh, Devo, KVK....I think they all have nicks that are natural and we accepted. Just pay a little attention as new ones come along and move on. Jimmy G in San Fran does not have sole rights to that moniker. A Train, Michael, Big E, Shaq, Pistol are all guys who have legit possession of a name. Jimmy G seems kind of generic.

I don't understand the issue about this nickname either. I kind of like the "3 by Jimmy G"! And, Jimmy, keep 'em coming!

Just to be avoid confusion, "Dougie" is Doug Taylor and "Jordy" is Jordan Dartis.

Ha. Ha. Very funny smart @ss :).

This was meant to be thread drift, not a "thing". Certainly not offensive in any way shape or form. Mostly just a confusing and annoying side note.

Nobody will confuse any of our other nicknames with anybody else. It's pretty obvious who we're referring to. Except this one.

No offense to James "Jimmy G" Gollon, but Jimmy Garoppolo has about four hundred billion more times of name recognition, and that's who people are naturally going to think you're referring to (at least mine does). It just gets compounded by the fact that we don't have a "Jimmy" listed on our roster. Means people read it as Garoppolo, know that can't be correct, then have to pause and think a minute about who in the world they actually mean. Just a pain.

Then again, maybe my calling attention to this has made it enough of a "thing" that nobody will ever confuse it again lol.

And not 5 minutes after I post this is "Jimmy G" currently trending on Twitter.

That being Jimmy Garoppolo of course. Not one James Gollon. Since SF just made him the highest paid player in the NFL. #MyPointExactly

Never heard of the guy till you posted his name then again I don't pay any attention to the NFL any more. Can't watch game because of the commercials and mindless drivel from many of the announcers. Jimmy G for 3 in the Convo every day of the week.

Garoppolo may be a big deal in some circles (curious where those are) but I'm perplexed that when you're in the Convo you can't help but to think Jimmy G refers to an NFL player because the roster lists a James and no Jimmy? Methinks OUr Jimmy G just hasn't gotten your attention yet?

When I heard Lou announce Jimmy G had made a 3-point basket, my first thought was how could he possibly have college eligibility and how long would Ohio go on probation for playing a professional football athlete.

Good grief some of you are absurd.
