NW Ohio is a member of NAIA Div 2, Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference. Interesting grouping of schools, some of them with fairly large enrollments. Cornerstone (MI) is currently #1 in the national poll.

My sister-in-law's boyfriend played baseball for Northwestern Ohio for one year, but he transferred to UC to be a non-athlete so he could have a real college experience.

According to the athletic department website:

The current athletic department was revived and rebranded in 2007-08, which included adding men's and women's basketball. They've only been a program for 10 years?

Fake Jeff tells me that this school has some real athletes who couldn't qualify academically at an NCAA school. He says don't take the Racers lightly or they'll run over you.

Joking aside, it is pretty cool that they have a Motorsports coach listed in their staff directory.

Their racing programs are something else to watch over at Eldora. Definitely are a niche school with great potential I think.

Nonetheless, from looking at their roster of Ohio kids, I am not worried.....

Ohio athletics has introduced me to dozens of schools/teams over the years that without our creative scheduling, I wouldn't know even existed. Friday night I'll add to that list of schools I had never heard of after nearly half a century of living, until now.

Agree. I know you're not making fun of folks who seek careers in applied technology, but others might misunderstand the value of the motorsports/diesel/auto tech studies.

My cousin earned a dual diesel/ASE two-year technical degree at this institution around 1980. He's had a great career in automotive technology and for several years owned his own gas station/repair shop until the franchise model changed. He's smart and hard working.

One of my high school classmates -- a collision tech career guy -- has a son there now on a 100% academic scholarship doing the same thing my cousin did.

We have a nephew who earned a two-year degree in automotive technology at an institution near Cleveland and he had no trouble finding good work during the last recession. He continues to advance in his career

There's definitely a market for motorsports and other technology-based advanced technical learning. These kinds of programs are especially good for those who have a blend of logical/mathematical and kinetic intelligence.

I wouldn't know this was even a school either if not for my step-brother who graduated from there with a degree dealing with heavy machinery/engines. It's a great school for the programs they have to offer since a lot of those trades are falling by the wayside unless you go the apprentice route.

Really any engine technology. They do agricultural and diesel programs as well.

I grew up 15 miles from the opponent school, and have a cousin who graduated from the automotive school. That particular school of focus, and Buck to Bob mentioned, is a niche school where UNOhio does exceedingly well. They place guys into NASCAR and Indycar teams, as well as dirt racing teams. That program is elite in it's field.

As for playing them in hoops...yeah....I'm on board with the idea of not doing this game ever again. I'd rather see the guys get beat at Duke by 40 than play this game, and I'm not a fan of scheduling those kinds of games.

This game will not be on ESPN3 and the reason(s) have previously been discussed here on BA. However, I'm still a little confused as to why other colleges are able to broadcast their games on ESPN3 when students are on break while Ohio is not. Not so much a big deal with this matchup, but Ohio has 2 homes games in early January before the students return and that I assume will not be on ESPN3. That makes for about home 5 games, or about 1/3 of our home games, not on ESPN3.

I grew up 25 miles from there and never heard of them until I googled them and found out they used to be the Northwestern Business College. A couple of my high school classmates went there for accounting classes, etc. I agree that you don't take any opponent lightly or they'll bite you. I don't think Saul will let the team overlook them. We should easily put up 100 on them and win by 50 or more. Of course, now that I've said that....

I really hate these lower-division games as part of the regular season. I wonder how much of that's attributed to the "P"s expanding their conference schedule, leaving more open dates for the rest of us to fill in however we can.

One of the schools in their league is Lourdes, in Sylvania, OH. I'll have to admit I had barely heard of Lourdes.

Probably part of the reason why when you look at the MAC rankings in Ken Pom it is so poor. The Mac and Ohio have got to do better than this.

These games are totally disregarded by KenPom so they have no impact.

Some insight as to why non-D1 games sometimes show up on the December schedule: http://www.toledoblade.com/College/2017/12/26/Lourdes-men...

It's telling that EMU has to schedule four just so they can get the minimum number of home games. NOBODY wants to play in front of the friends and family crowds in Ypsi.

Apparently, Jay Bilas hasn't looked closely at MAC schedules.
