Good article on the state of the MAC's balls.

http://www.toledoblade.com/College/2018/02/16/Ball-does-l...

Paul said the data shows no matter what type of ball is used, the best shooters seem to be able to figure it out.“It always comes back to the people who complain about the ball when you’re playing pick-up games are the ones that can’t shoot,” Paul said. “The pure shooters probably could still shoot with a brick.”

This is fascinating. I didn't realize that football teams bring their own ball for their offense. I knew there were different manufacturers of basketballs, but I assumed that there were more specific specs that the NCAA makes them meet.

I would think that shooting would be less affected by ball-type than handling or passing.

I think the biggest difference among brands of b-balls is the bounce. This shows up sometimes in missed shots. Missed shots at some places always seem to come off the rim with a higher arc than at other places. Could be the rims, but it also could be the brand of ball the home team uses.

Is that filed correctly under the Dewey Decimal System?

So they say that teams that use a specific ball saw a decrease in shooting percentage when using another brand. But is that because of the ball or the environment? Would like to see the data on shooting percentages on the road when using the same ball they use at home.
