After looking at both of these, I would say that the first one was totally bogus. The second one, from one angle, looks like he points at the defender in a taunting manner. From other angles it just looks like a random waving of his arm. No sure it was valid either, but I can see the rationale for calling depending on what the official saw and what his angle was. If multiple officials saw it, they should have conferred and come up with a consensus. Just my humble opinion.

Holy Crap!

Pretty sure I woulda gone Bobby Knight PLUS Lou Pinella on that ref. Phones pounded. Chairs chucked. Dirt kicked. Bumping. Hats thrown. You name it.

Bizarre.

I ve seen that ref before. COnfirms my initial impression that he is somewhat of a d*#k.

No way were either of those calls that should have been made. Even if they missed the call and gave him a personal on the first one no way was it a tech.

Sad

I was watching some of the LaTech vs MTSU game on the tube this season and the amount of trash-talking they allowed (mostly MTSU players talking smack to LaTech forward Jy'lan Washington who is from the Murfreesboro TN area -Smyrna's Stewarts Creek High - but picked LaTech over MTSU) was beyond the pale. MTSU's players should be above the butt-hurt act and the refs needed to give some warnings which I didn't recall seeing any of. A mid-major team that knocked off a couple of Big Ten teams in the NCAA big dance the last couple of years doesn't need to act like punks and the refs don't have to ignore it.

A little thread drift here

BA is one of the few places where you can find a phrase "beyond the pale" in one sentence https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/beyond-the-pale.html and talk of being butt hurt (didn't know it had a hyphen) in the next. As an avid collector of phraseology and misused words and abused meanings (we should not loose this game) I found this to be very interesting.

Back to the original discussion of pathetic reffing.

butt·hurt
ˈbətˌhərt/Submit
USinformal
adjective
adjective: butt-hurt
1.
overly or unjustifiably offended or resentful.
"they're all butthurt that she released the album online first"
noun
noun: butt-hurt
1.
an excessive or unjustifiable feeling of personal offense or resentment.
"it's time to get over the butthurt from last year's playoffs"

Looks like the hyphen is optional. Urban Dictionary has it several different ways including run together like this: "ButtHurt" with the B and H in caps.

Still not sure it tops the phantom safety.

Of course, that's crossing sports.

The phantom safety crossed all sense of decency and logic and if it had happened to a higher profile program, it would be infamous. ESPN would replay it every year on Gameday on the anniversary, like Fifth Down.

Wow, fully expected to watch the video and be able to see a tiny bit of vindication for the refs but don't anything at all in either. It doesn't appear that he says a thing in either one. What is really odd is the refs that call them aren't the ones that have the best view of it.
