Has there ever been a greater shot pump faker in the history of Ohio basketball?? Dude is a legend pulling off that move 17 times a game. Best shot pump faker to ever wear the green and white. And why was he the first player off the bench for Laster in the 2nd half? Why would Gollon ever get into a game before Butler. Makes no sense. #GetItTogetherSaul

Ton of smart basketball people on this board. Not sure how anyone can justify his PT and ever getting into the game before Butler. He's not MAC ready. Might have worked in HS in Wisconsin...but not here.

When it comes to pump fakes, I'd say Block is up there with Gollon.

At least Block never stops battling. Unlike a couple other starters.

Not sure why Gollon has become the target of some of the more "passionate" fans on this board, but he has out played Butler by every metric possible this year. I think Butler can be a good player for us, but he isn't quite ready yet.

Here are areas where Gollon has better stats than Butler so far this year, followed by Gollon's team rank in ().

eFG% (3rd), TS% (1st), OR% (4th), DR% (2nd), Assist% (4th), TO% (2nd to last), Block% (3rd), Steal% (3rd), Fouls Drawn per 40 (3rd), FT% (1st- 93%), 2pt% (3rd), 3pt% (5th)

If anything I think Gollon should be playing more. I think Saul needs to find a way to get him more confidence as he has actually been pretty good in short spurts, although admittedly his best games came closer to the beginning of the year than now.

If you look at his game logs we actually had some of our biggest wins of the year when he got a lot of run. 28 minutes against Indiana State including most of the 2nd half comeback and OT periods. He also scored 13 points against Western Kentucky in what was by far our best win of the season.

He's definitely not consistent enough yet, but he has shown that given a chance he can be a useful player.

I essentially agree on Gollon, BigTilly. i think he's just become a scapegoat for the anger of some.

Actually, you've asked for more PT from Butler several times, so that truly is not all that you ask for. ;)

Interestingly enough, Gollon had played double digits minutes in every game this season up until MAC play started. This month, he's had three games under ten minutes. Butler had a handful of games under 10 minutes in OOC. Only one since MAC play started.

Butler is a freshman and Gollon is a redshirt sophomore. Some of he and Block’s minutes should go to Butler. Butler needs experience and he needs time to find his rhythm.

Block brings many things to the Bobcats that don't jump out at the average fan. He is our only help-side defender who understands that you must be in position to stop dribble penetration in the lane. In time, youngsters like Butler and others will watch enough film to understand that these plays must be made or people will be "dribble-driving " you to death . Butler will get more playing time as he learns to battle in practice and earns those minutes that turn him into a sophomore. ! We need Blocks maturity out there on the floor, whether he is shooting it lights out or not !

You are absolutely correct , Butler can’t get into a rhythm because of the way he’s been used . He can provide a lot more than we have been shown . We seem to play too slow and Butler can’t get it and go in our offense and when he’s ion the wing he can’t get a shot . There’s been times he’s looked good offensively and flowing but can’t get a shot through the offense unless he takes it on his own . I’m waiting to see him get the chance to play his game . I couldn’t believe he sat the entire second half amd 4 overtime’s against Indiana St . Butler will be fine so don’t worry .

Always love it when someone makes the above statement. . .
. . . you disagree with me? Well then, you're clearly not as knowledgeable as I am and don't know what to look for in a player.

I suggest it's possible that two knowledgeable fans can have two different opinions of a player.

What is interesting about all of your arguments is I agree with both sides. I think Butler should get waaaay more PT. We are not going anywhere in the regular season and if we "think" we can do anything in the MAC Tourney we will need his athleticism. He has been clutch in a few spots and I think he needs more time to get more confidence. He was huge against Kent, had a big block the other day...he really should be playing more.

In regards to Gollon, all he does is play hard. He is one of the few guys who I consider a "warrior" for us right now. He hits the boards as well as anyone on the team and he looks like a fun, good teammate. He barely played as a freshman and sat out a year. He's got 2 years left. Let's let him work through a year off this year and wait until next year to pass judgment on the dude.

While that's possible, someone who has actually played D1 ball probably does have better eyes for these kinds of things.

The good ole intangible article, we all have our favorite players which lead to biases. Block need to improved his shooting or lose time to someone who can. He gives up double the points that he averages. I hope that he does improve his shooting and keep his minutes. Butler brings more athleticism and versatility, Block brings more experience, situational awareness and bobcatattack fanfare.
