Win or go home. This is a tee ball league, he makes over a half million dollars.

Good, please go home and take your non-support of kids who are playing hurt, and busting their tails representing my Alma mater with you.

Comprehension is key. I support the program that is why I support a coaching change if Saul can not get it done next year. I believe that we can do better. This year has been crazy with all of the injuries. This should be a year that our normal reserves will get valuable experience. Saul is not the program, he is a coach that was hired to win.
You're right. I don't comprehend most of your ramblings and your obsession with the word mediocre.
I understand, somebody put some Spanish fly in your drink. Let's believe that our Alma mater can do great things, lets not have inferior notions or visions for our program.

That was a tough one to swallow. To come out with that effort, do almost everything right, and narrowly miss out on the win is a backbreaker. But how is it we are essentially a team of Division 1 guards and we miss so many free throws?

I'll be frank. I have written off this year. Hate to say it, but we are playing for 2018-2019 with this crew. The fact that we are getting Kirk and Butler minutes is going to pay dividends next season which should be the play by our program. Yes, the injuries suck and yes the results suck, but we're going to win and lose with this group and watch them grow up. As I have said, Saul is going to ride on next season heavily whether he gets an extension or is onto another job. I think the fact that his kids are getting minutes right now is allowing them to grow up quicker than usual.

The biggest difference I saw today was very rapid ball movement. The biggest change was the insertion of Gollon. The kid moves the ball around and gets down the floor. He needs to play more even when the injured folks come back.

Tough loss.

Team never gave up, when they have pretty much every reason to mail it in the rest of the way.

Great ball movement first half. Maybe best I've seen in the last few years. Not as good in second half as first. I'm unsure if we strayed, or CMU adjusted.

I cringe every time Todd Von Sossan comes to the Convo. Hope he's not back for Akron game. I'm guessing at least one on Ohio's staff may feel similar.

Pretty good D against CMU's 3pt shooters today (which I think is most of the team)

Had a word with Keno Davis during warmups. Asked for his prediction, and got the vanilla "you never know on any given day in this conference" But then when I asked him about Ohio's injuries, he had that sick look like he almost felt sorry for Ohio. I assume he was thinking about what if his team was decimated like that.

TK - fearless game - we're lucky we have him creating for us. He's a spark many times a game.

Gollon was really pesky to CMU on D. Took advantage of a few CMU ball handlers throughout the day.

Alan stood for defense :)

Halftime show was the best so far. (would be second to Red Panda though)

Strong game by Doug.

Big bounce back by Mike. He's had a couple off nights leading up, and playing hurt has to be tough.

You can tell Zach is in pain too, but gutting it out.

Smart of our team to get CMU 24 in foul trouble early. That gave us a lot of opportunities. Wish they could have fouled him out sooner. 4 came quick, 5th took a lot.

Very strong game by all 7 Ohio players. Hope some of the other guys heal quick though.

CMU #12 Kozinski may have the quickest release in NCAA. That guy was very impressive - in that aspect only.

Free throws though. Yuck. Always room for improvement.

On to the next one. Would be VERRRRRRY nice to get a W from Akron & Groce. I want this game more than Miami & Buffalo until he's gone.

I missed this game because I was at wedding in Steubenville. A friend texted me regular updates of the scores. I was encouraged as OHIO was ahead almost all the way. As the wedding reception was winding down, I get a text indicating that the game was near a tie. Then a tie. Then an OT. Then a second OT. We got back to our hotel room just in time to see the very end of the second OT. Because ESPN always has a minute or so delay, my friend texted me that it was over as I watched the ending. It was a horrible feeling seeing the final minute, when I would otherwise have had hope, knowing that we had already lost. But, I guess that's life on the road for an OHIO fan when the team's at home in the Convo! [My apologies to TOS.]

Edit: I'll be back in Athens on Sunday, and plan to be there at the Convo on Tuesday. Go OHIO!

Gutsy effort, that is something to be proud of.

Haircut Jesus needs to learn that you never leave your feet on defense that far from the basket. He hit the big three shot and then made the critical mental error on defense. Feel bad for the kid.

And I'm confident he will. But the guy's name is AJ Gareri. He earned a scholarship to play for us. Can we all collectively decide not to be jerks when it comes to our own players

Hard not to focus on the missed opportunities at the free throw line, but that and a couple of WTF turnovers did them in. Tough way to go out, especially with that kind of performance by only 7 players.

Looking at the positives though:

-Tons of assists all around. Team looked so, so, so much better moving the basketball.

-Dougie Fresh with a monster game in the paint. He looked like a totally different player yesterday.

-Zach B didn't shoot well, but played decent D and Had 5 assists with zero turnovers while playing with injury.

-Jimmy G played a really good all around game. I think he ended up with a line of 13/6/6 or something, without looking it up. The missed layup sucks, but you could tell he wanted to dunk that so bad. Just didn't have the legs at that time and made a bad decision. Oh well, learning moment.

-I thought AJ looked the best he's been all season. Hit a huge shot down the stretch on a pass from Zach. Two freshmen making a big play in crunch time. Would have liked to see him get subbed a little more once TK went out so we could have fresher legs, but oh well. Thought the refs might swallow the whistle on that foul call, but it probably was the right one.

-Seems like the team is trying to plug holes in a dam and each time out some new leak gets sprung. Fixed the offense this time around, then the free throws don't fall. Sometimes the free throws and offense are there, but then too many turnovers or bad defense. Just haven't really seen a complete game from the boys yet in MAC play. They definitely are working towards something, we just may not see the fruits of their labor until it's too late. Today was a day of progress though, I believe that.

Can we talk some more about just how stupid it was for that game-tieing three to go in for CMU in the first overtime?

It was less probable than Jamie Mercurio's shot in the triple overtime game against Miami in 1992.

Yes, please. I understand fandom frustration, but I don't understand why some of those same fans just take cheap shots at our own players. What is the reason for this? And cheap shots about how somebody looks are just ridiculous.

As a long time Indians and Browns fan, I can accept that for Hoops I have to wait until next year. I am ok with that. Adversity at our programs door for two years plus.

Good to be back in the Convo after 6 weeks of rehabbing 2 new knees and nice to spend pregame with you Pete. Got to catch up with some of the guys before and after the game. Was a good day. Convo is indeed a tough place with limited mobility and aches and pains that come with a bit of impairment. Lots of little things that you don't think about till you have to navigate the world differently. Ball State is definitely better set up than we are for those folks.

Team looked way better in person than they have on the little screen. Good ball movement. Ball went side to side, reversed and stayed hot rather than how it has been sticky since I saw them in Charleston and early December.

DT attacking the rim, still has some defensive gaffes and tendencies but working hard and finishing well. Seems to find loose balls in the paint a lot as well. TK is getting much better as the year goes on, an off season effort and I think that frosh to soph jump will be huge. JGollon is working hard and still improving since I saw him in the practice gym working on individual skills in Charleston. Solid performance. Mike really looks hampered by the shoulder, moves that were second nature are labored and incomplete but his heart and head are still engaged. Finishing a shot across the lane is not natural, his long shots are hampered in their motion as his off hand just does not move with the fluidity he had developed earlier in the year. Gavin still doing a lot of little things that go unnoticed. Really enjoy his off the ball defense and the way he settles things down on the offensive end when frosh guards start to play unnerved. Too early to figure out AJ's attributes but that 3 he hit was timely. Flattest shot I can remember that actually went in but in it went. Good to see his ankles held up when called on. Butler is solid but IMO there is a difference between the 2 in skills that is more than just PT. Zach still has a lot of upside that he needs to work and tap into. He will be fine with coaching and self motivation. If he is a 2 guard he is a bit undersized and HAS to be more of a threat and a more consistent and efficient scorer in the mold of what Nick K gave to take that 2 spot. If he is a PG, handles, vision and ability to deliver the ball have got to get better. GOing to be interesting to see where he focuses his efforts in the spring/summer. None of those guys are mailing it in and there still is fight in their eyes and in their efforts. Great kids doing what they can to get a win.

Many are not happy here and fanboards from Buffalo to Balls are taking great delight in watching the BA board and the fanbase turn on itself as well as exacting a bit of satisfaction in seeing the Bobcats on the bottom but I liked the lack of quit I saw yesterday. Not happy not being the premier program in the MAC I have believed we can be since John Rhodes sat in our dining room and told us his vision of what he thought Ohio should be... but it is a year that should be an anomaly when we look back in years to come. Still work to do this year. Good to be back in Athens and in the Convo. As the year of GA work comes to an end and he walks with his Masters not sure what the future will bring. Except for the pain associated with driving round trip with healing still going on......Yesterday felt awful good to be in the Hills.

I could not be there Saturday because of other obligations as detailed earlier in this thread. I just hope that everyone can be back on Tuesday when JG and the Zips Traveling Road Show make their debut in Athens. Let's have a loud and boisterous crowd and make the opening of that show a flop!

Watching this game was like sitting on the tracks and watching the train coming to hit you for a few miles. You know it's coming, it's just a matter of when. We made a lot of great plays and put forth a great effort playing short handed. In the end, we gave way too many free points away and we're not good enough right now to do that and win.

Beating Akron would feel good, though.
