Kind of an informal poll following TOS'S comments. On BA I'll expand to include SEO from what I perceived him to be referring to Athens folk. Not a whole lot of discussion needed just trying to figure out the constituent representation on the board. I'll start

Not by birth, nor residency except my time as a student.

But, I have Meigs County, Gallia County, Mason County (WV) and Putnam County (WV) family roots that go back to the late 1700s. As such, I strongly identify with my Appalachian heritage. Many of my values are consistent with those of similar background.

He says "small town, rural area". My impression is that most of BA is actually urban or away from Athens and the contiguous counties. I think you are a safe "NOT"

Also, the realization just hit me that BA was effectively calling TOS (and his wife) a "coastal elite" 15 years ago, but the phrase itself wasn't invented yet.

SEO (Athens), 1946 (six months); 1950-fall 1955; fall 1956-fall 1962; spring 1963-fall 1964; fall 1966-spring, 1968; fall 1969-end of summer 1970; 1978-present. But, my father's family came to SEO (Monroe County) in the early 1830s, so I to am a hilljack from way back.

Most certainly, "Yes." I was born in Athens, Ohio (St. Mary's Hospital in Nelsonville, Ohio to be exact), and I grew up in Athens proper (Putnam, Athens Middle School, and Athens High School), until graduating from Ohio University at the age of 21. I am still in contact with the folks I went to elementary school with and beyond that, and I still have Hocking River water running through my veins, even though I only come back for brief visits from time to time. Oh, yeah, I am a Bobcat and a confirmed hater of Miami University forever.
