Pretty fascinating reading here.

800 schools. When did consolidation take place? IN did it in the late 50s early 60 and mandated in 1959 that a district must have 1000 students or be forced to consolidate. Seems like there are many rural areas in Ohio that still have less than this K-12.
I'm not sure what the rules concerning consolidation in Ohio were but most of it happened in the 60s. Here, there used to be an eight-school Wyandot County League before consolidation. Four of those schools merged into Upper Sandusky's district. Others combined (with schools in neighboring counties) to form Mohawk, Riverdale and Wynford.

There still remains many very small school districts. There are some school districts around here that graduate 25-40 kids a year. Some of them, like Vanlue, even play football, though others like New Riegel are non-football schools. Interestingly, just a couple years ago there was a consolidation of Bettsville (the Bobcats), which had a graduating class of 12 in its final year, into the Old Fort district. There was discussion of Arcadia and Vanlue merging but that didn't work out.
There was a mention about forming super conferences with promotion and regulation. The BVC with Arcadia and Vanlue is considering expanding to 14 with two tiers based on enrollment and record previous 4 years. Makes sense when the Findlay township schools of Liberty Benton and Van Buren are competing D4 & D5 respectively in mostly a D6/D7 league. Vanlue could be that size if they were permitted to absorb the growth on Findlay's east side as LB and VB did to the West and North. BVC is at 12 with North Baltimore. To go to 14 they should offer Fostoria and Elmwood, the two southern members of the Northern Buckeye Conference but economically linked with North Baltimore, Van Buren, Liberty Benton, Arcadia with the distribution centers many of those work at. These are the HS jackets you see all the time shopping in the Findlay stores. I know it would be amazing for Fostoria a program that was ranked #1 in DII football and on par with D1 playoff teams drop all the way to the BVC but they haven't won a conference championship in any sport in seven years of competing in D5 NBC. BVC is talking with Upper Scioto Valley but they are a foreign name in the Findlay market.

Not quite correct here Uncle Wes! The BVC is not currently reaching out to USV to join the league. "Originally" when the league decided to expand there was talk with USV among others and they did not accept. Hopewell Louden, North Baltimore and Riverdale did as Hardin Northen had decided to leave for another smaller school conference. Hopewell Louden has decided to now leave the BVC. No one has been in any discussion and won't be for a year or two or more. Your divisions are a little high for LB and VB as well. And Vanlue will not see any growth from Findlay as they do not border Findlay with much border if any. Yes LB and VB have benefitted. Cory-Rawson, Arlington, Arcadia and Riverdale border and have had no real additions in their districts.

Where are you from that you have the awareness you do with the area?
