Students from an Auburn University advanced sports reporting class connected with former players and broadcasters to produce a roundtable/oral history of March Madness. Clark Kellogg is prominently featured and had this little nugget.


Which specific game moment was most memorable to you?
Kellogg: Nothing can compare to my son’s team in 2012 at Ohio University making it all the way to the Sweet Sixteen. That team and that experience will always go to the top of the list for me, as a dad. In 2012, the Bobcats beat Michigan and then beat Florida to get to the Sweet Sixteen. The team almost beat North Carolina in overtime.

I didn’t get to attend any of those games in person. I watched on my iPad, and CBS actually put up a TV monitor for me in the Sweet Sixteen game because our game was staggered. The game I was broadcasting started about 30 minutes after my son’s game started, but I was able to watch a good portion of my son’s game. If I had to pick a team, that’s going to be the team. And obviously Nick being a part of it. That was really, really special.

Only problem is, we did not beat Florida in 2012.
He obviously meant South Florida. Give the man a break!

Lost to Florida in 2005 67-62 while I was at Florida working on my Ph.D. and rooting for the green and white and explaining we weren't Ohio State.
It turned out Florida learned something from the game and turned it into back-to-back titles in 2006-07 and Gator Nation (thanks to football too) has extreme hate for the frauds from Columbus.

I was at that game and it was an amazing experience.

Man, that was such a fun time. OHIO got a lot of publicity. And, what a classy family to have in our program history.

Mr Kellogg received a call from me around 2011/2012 soliciting funds for Ohio Athletic and Academic Depts while he was in the middle of cooking dinner he was literally overjoyed to hear from the us and asked if I’d give him a second to grab his checkbook. Also met him at Ohio games what a geniunely great human being.
