Me, I like Bucknell over Michigan State. The Bison haven't lost since a month ago today and dominated the Patriot League tournament. I could see Wright getting past Tennessee, but I'm picking it. But check this....

Wait for it...

I'm taking Penn over Kansas!

Some Big Ten team is going down, so I'll take Montana over Michigan. The week off kills all the Wolverines momentum.

Watch the Jacks of South Dakota State take down Ohio State. Unless Buckeye fans show up in mass in Boise, I doubt the fans there will be showing them much love. SDSU should bring a nice crowd and I doubt the Gonzaga fans present will be pulling for the Buckeyes.

Not a bad 5/12 play. The Jackrabbits are a strong program and making their third consecutive NCAA appearance if I recall correctly. Current Wright State Head Coach Scott Nagy did a great job there in bringing the program from D-II to D-I. They had NCAA and NIT appearances when he was in Brookings. If you watch his teams, you can tell he is an excellent teacher; and, he's also very involved in the community wherever he coaches.

The current Head Coach T.J. Otzelberger has kept it going and will probably end up on somebody's hot list this season. He has a solid resume -- played at Wisconsin-Whitewater and was an assistant at Chipola JC in Florida, Washington and twice at Iowa State. Worked with Romar, McDermott and Hoiberg.

Random question: Isn't Daktronics (the scoreboard and digital sign company) based on Brookings?

If I were to pick a deuce to go down, it would be Duke vs Iona. Duke can be very erratic this time of year, while the Gaels usually find a way to knock off a big guy.

But I doubt that any of the twos will lose, so my HUGE upset would be #14SFA over #3TxTech in Dallas. Tech was 2nd in the B12 but couldn't make it to the final. SFA has won 10 of its last 11 and can be trouble in the early rounds.

Lipscomb over UNC.

OK, I'm not putting that in my real bracket but hey, it was a bold pick!

Side note: Lipscomb's top player is named Garrison Mathews. 22ppg

I saw him play when he was a senior in h.s. against a team that had current Louisiana Tech forward Jay'lan Washington. Pretty good game, went down to the wire. I always heard back then he was more known for football (being listed at 6-4 and 220 at the time) and was not sure what to think when he signed with DLU for hoops. And maybe he would have been an outstanding football player somewhere in college... but size/strength/pure athletic ability meant he was going to be really good in whatever sport he stuck with.

Well, there's that size/strength/athleticism thing again.

DLU will be a fast one and done, but congrats to them on their first NCAA big dance trip. And congrats to Garrison Mathews on NBC Sports naming him honorable mention all-american.

Here's a bold prediction:

Texas to the Elite 8. Big name and budget, sure. But nobody is expecting much of them in this tournament as they were towards the end of the list of at large bids given out.

While only finishing 6th in the Big 12, the Longhorns will find a hot streak when it matters most.

Shaka Smart has made his career by winning in March and will find that magic again.

Longhorns land a surprisingly easy win over Nevada in round one.

Take out a cold shooting Cincinnati team in the round of 32.

Then Texas beats Loyola who knocked off Tennessee the week prior.

As both a Cincinnati and Tennessee fan it pains me to paint this scenario, but then again maybe that's why I find it so believable since both teams have a penchant for letting me down when it matters most LOL.

My Father In Law drove for MaryAnn then Rosen's. Gonella was a dirty word in that house.

Ramblers were one of my upsets as are Marshall.

You do remember Red Rush, right?

Cawood did his last broadcast for a Kentucky game in 1992. I'm not sure when Rush retired from broadcasting Loyola games on WMAQ.

Well that's right. I just never listened to UK on radio after the 70s as they were always on TV and I was living in Chicago. I think Rush was on the west coast by then doing the A's for Charlie Finley IIRC Bill Veeck talking about him on a Sox pre game when LaRussa was the skipper and Jimmy Peirsall was the Sox commentator

I was a real nerd in high school, and I loved to listen to these two on the radio in the evenings, sometimes in my bed with my transistor radio under my pillow. In my mind, they are still the two best radio announcers in the history of college basketball. Rush was more colorful with some of his expressions. Ledford was perhaps more technically accurate. But with both you really felt you had a front row seat to the action.

Two of my favorite expressions from each:

"Swisheroo, it went through!" -- Rush
"The Hilltoppers will be moving left to right on your radio dial." -- Ledford

Some think that Ledford invented the "left to right on your radio dial" expression.

That was not an upset, Buffalo was a better team. I don't think they were just a better team yesterday, I think that if they play 10 times, Buffalo wins 7 or 8.

Should West Virginia win its 1st Round game against Murray State (that's no given), that sure makes for an interesting 2nd Round matchup.

True, I predicted it the other way, but WVU-Marshall would be interesting. My money is on a Murray State upset. So far, the only upset I've missed was picking Davidson over UK.
