I don't condone the firing of Mark Fox. UGa is a football school that also happens to have a basketball team that plays in an old mediocre arena in front of small crowds. I don't think whoever they get will be a step up.

Haha

I don't think THey really care what we think, or worse, condone.

What you say is true but I have been saying for a week they would be doing him a favor. THe coaching fraternity knows he is an X s and Os guy, The admins know he runs a clean program. In the midst of the FBI clamp down he will be a hot commodity. They have failed with a couple of high profile hires but like Tenn, Alabama, Florida in the SEC I think they can do well in the NCAA if they get a guy who will just recruit the home state. There is a ton of talent just around Atlanta.

A guy with nothing but Midwest career stops (save or a year at Western Carolina) goes to the South. Interesting.

A lot to be said for keeping with in the natural footprint of your recruiting base and with the coaches who you know....that said Ga State with Ron Hunter and Ray McCallum recruiting are back in the dance. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/roster/_...

That roster looks nothing like Ron's roster at IUPUI or Ray's at Ball State. Ray's comments on Georgia were interesting. I talked to him at his father's funeral, he said, "where's TOmmy?"....I answered "Kalamazoo with Ohio". He looked long and hard and said..."yeah I do not miss that ONE bit..' So Thad may be able to not only enjoy the weather but keep the in state boys home and teach em a bit of how to play hoops.

Looks like Matta's name can be scratched from the list of candidates:

the IU folks refer to him as "Clappy the Tan Clown" but he knows basketball. Will be interesting to see another guy out of his recruiting footprint and how he relates to the kids from ATL. I think Crean is a good coach but I suspect he may not be the one to turn that program around....

If I was PITT I would back a Brinks truck up to Nate Oats house and meet his price for that miserable job.
