Rick Pitino has reportedly hired an agent and says that he wants to coach in college again. Just for the sake of argument, would you be willing to overlook his past transgressions and hire him as a head coach, if, in fact, Ohio was looking for such a thing? If not, how would you feel about hiring a coach who was fired from a big time program instead of going with an untested coach, who is thought to be up and coming. It is off-season for the 'Cats, so what better time to consider ridiculous ideas, while cheering our MAC brothers on in the NCAA tournament.

No on Pitino but yes on a coach from a more prestigious school depending on why he got fired. Essentially that is what Akron did with John Groce.

I concur, I do not Pitino. Only reason I would want him is to help boost interest in Ohio Basketball. My problem with him is that you know the NCAA would come calling and not only that, he had scandals in Louisville. I mean could you imagine Pitino on Court Street?

No to Pitino. Somebody like Dan Muller who has won 2/3 of his games in the MVC and is still young. Casey Alexander has a 23 win season going at David Lipscomb (yes, a D-1 school) and has done the unthinkable... he has them going to the big dance. Matt Figger took a really down APSU team to 18-14 this season WHICH INCLUDED A 25 POINT WIN OVER FIAMI and is in one of the non-NIT tournaments.

There are tons of options. No need to hire a "Pitino."

There is an answer, one that has been here the whole time. He is one of our own, he is a proven MAC winner both on the court and in the coach's box. He is a Bobcat and he knows what it means to have a winner on this campus. He is ..... Geno Ford.

Bring Geno home and cure this program.

Would be happy with Boals too. Should have been the hire 4 years ago.

About Geno and Boals? Our present AD probably won't look in that direction. That is not his current hiring practice. Guessing he will look elsewhere.

Our AD hired Groce who was an assistant coach at Ohio State with no prior college basketball head coaching experience. 4 years ago, Jeff Boals was an assistant coach at Ohio State with no prior college basketball head coaching experience.

Boals is 31 and 33 after two years as a head coach and was 13 and 19 this year. I don't see that happening. As for Geno, way too much baggage there. I like both guys but neither is a good match right now. The fellow at Penn would be a good choice.

Additionally, he hired Christian who left the MAC as a winner, failed at a TCU and came back to win close to 50 games in (2) seasons. I know the sentiment on Christian, but he has BC turning the corner in the ACC on a campus that places the hockey ice before the basketball court...literally.

There are options, lets weigh them

Perhaps a better subject would be a guy like Chris Jans. Fired for cause at BG but just took New Mexico State to the dance in his first year.

What makes him a cure? That proven winner, as a coach, hasn't won anything really.

That's a joke right? I mean that Geno can't win in the MAC? I'm sure The Bradley stuff has you misrembering. Or maybe it's the Kent state buy out stuff. Anyway....Check out Geno's run at Kent. Saul produces anything close to the same results and this board has a decidedly different tone.

Crystal ball.....2 distinct possibilities....Hopefully in 12 months Jim Schaus is sitting in the selection committee room feeling good because Ohio won the MAC tournament and will be getting a 13 seed at 6 pm. More likely though, Jim Schaus will be announcing a search for a new leader that he will be heading.

\\

Just out of curiosity I looked at Geno's 3 years at Kent. Looks like he had the same 12 to 15 loss records as Christian's 9 13 losses before him in 6 seasons and 12 -14 losses as Sendy has in the 7 years since. He was there for 3 seasons and used quite a few of athletes recruited under Christian (and of course Sendy got to use Geno's) Not sure what to think of Geno as a coach given his short tenure at Kent. I am not sure it is what I would ask the AD to consider as a Number One Candidate but inserting any Kent Coach from Heath to present would, on paper, look better statistically. Still not sure the recruits we see in Stow would fly with the fanbase. Still seem to have lots of fodder on those teams for a reworked O Zone.

It's not a joke. Besides the point that bornacat made about the recruits being heavily Christian's, he never won a MAC Tournament championship in his three years in Kent. As much complaining as there is here about Saul not doing that enough so far, that has to matter, right? Then, in four years at Bradley, he won 19 of 72 conference games. Loved the guy as a player, but personally, I'll pass on him as a head coach.

I hope you're right. I think we both want the program to be successful. I would love the first to happen but the money is on the later.
