Figured this topic deserved its own thread. Obviously, it’s all a guessing game right now until there is any official word from the team. Boals sounded pessimistic after the game. Feels like best case scenario is it's a bad sprain...you sit him next week and hope he can come back for Cleveland.

He came back out and sat on the bench for the rest of the game, but held his left arm still against his body the rest of the game. Looked bad.

I had a decent angle from my seat to see down the tunnel. When AJ went out, they worked on him in the tunnel. I saw him come out, Jersey back on, and he appeared to be stretching and hit the bike for a minute. At that point I thought he might be coming back in. Next thing I know, a few minutes later, he’s got an ice bag on the shoulder and he hardly moved the rest of the game.

I hate to say it, but if he’s out for Cleveland, I don’t think we have the proverbial snowball’s chance. Can’t lose another starter when the bench seems this razor thin.

If you parse Boals' postgame remarks, he indicated that the way the injury happened "looked bad," not that the injury looks bad. He said they'd make a decision based on how he responds to therapy. I'm guessing he's out at least against EMU, possibly Toledo, but back for Cleveland.

It doesn't sound like they put him in a sling, which IMO, is a good sign. I wouldn't count out Cleveland at this point.

Is this the same shoulder that kept out of basketball in 2023 / 2024 ?

he had the shoulder wrapped in a clear plastic sling type contraption at the end if the game ti keep his arm at his chest. again hoping it is for cautionary reasons.

got it, yeah that would make sense, I couldn't watch the game so was going on what was being reported here.

This is my hope as well. the best thing I saw was that he was actually out of the locker room doing high dribbles to test the shoulder -- and not being ginger about it -- well before he got shut down and iced. Based on that I think we see him tomorrow, Friday at the latest.

With ya on this.

I could also see not playing Tuesday....beat EMU....Akron beats Toledo..we clinch 3rd and we don't have to play Brown and Clayton on Friday at Toledo and let those guys rest.

I guess we'll see on Tuesday if Toledo has completely quit on Tod K. Akron has nothing to play for.

I noticed Brown doing the aggressive high dribbles after the injury as well and also riding a stationary bike with arm movement handlebars. I have no medical or training background but I remember at the time wondering if this was a good idea before a more thorough examination could be done. Was there risk of making the injury more serious….perhaps the difference between whether or not he comes back this season. Hopefully someone on the board with more experience and knowledge about such things can assure me that those were/are foolish thoughts.

They wouldn't have had him dribble and move arm on bike if there was any discomfort in doing so.

Hopefully you are right and he was being level with the staff about any such conversations. I can see how tempting it would for a young guy to understate how bad it feels to get back into a close game in that environment. Just the visual when it occurred looked serious. Hoping you are correct all the way around.

After the high dribbling, he sat on the bench down by the scorers table for a couple of minutes. He then got up and went back to the locker room with a painful look on his face while holding his hand/arm against his stomach.

I have no inside information and I hope we see him back on the court as early as tomorrow. But just based on his history with that shoulder, watching it happen in real time and Boals post-game comments, my gut is saying he's done for the year and we'll be hoping he's ready for next seasons opener.

Street clothes tonight. But no arm slings.

If we win tonight and Toledo and Kent lose... sit him Friday even if he is ready to go.

I saw this too. He sat down on the bench with a brace on and was raising it above his head and kind of doing some testing movements, it seemed like, to see if it would pop out again before he went back in the game. I looked back as he was standing up and holding it in pain against his stomach, and it looked like it had popped out again. Once a shoulder pops out, it often happens more easily, especially right after. Obviously there's no way of us knowing if there was actual structural damage from this one, but I'd hope there wasn't if he was testing it after the first one, and based on the fact he's not wearing a sling later in the week. I think this is something that you can play through, but there is a risk of it popping out again, which could cause structural damage, I'd assume. I wouldn't completely give up hope for next week, but also wouldn't be surprising if we don't see him suit up.

Disclaimer, I'm not a doctor, but have been around people with lots of shoulder issues, lol

I'm not a doctor either, but I don't think we'll know anything official about Brown injury until Ohio's season is over. Boals wants to keep the remaining opponents guessing and practicing for Brown in any future game. It wouldn't surprise me if Brown doesn't play again this season, but hopeful with no sling that there is a chance we see him on the court this season.

I'm not a physician either, but I used to play one on the radio. [Those who know my background will understand the joke, others can remain perplexed.] Given that this appears to be the same shoulder he had trouble with before, I suspect he won't play again this year, and maybe his career will be over. I sure hope that's not the case. It was really a courageous attempt to dive for the ball that caused the injury. This young man showed his real heart and his team-oriented spirit when he made that play. A less team-oriented player would have not made the attempt, especially exposing his previously injured shoulder. Instead, he would have just conceded the ball to the opponent and prepared to resume guarding him.

Hope he plays, don’t know the diagnosis, but shoulder injuries are not good for any sport that requires actually moving an arm. At the end of the day it’s why you’ve got to play the games. Shoulders and ankles, the two joints modern science has not perfected the replacement to or repair of.

My son had a completely torn labrum and they repaired it, good as new.

Ohio Bobcats Twitter has a pic of shoot around at Toledo. Brown is in practice gear and getting shots up.

Head fake by Boals?

Make them plan for AJB whether he's playing or not.

I'll be very surprised if he actually plays tonight.
