I swear refs hate Pav. I’ve never seen someone get mugged without a call like he does.
He doesn't go strong enough. You have to go strong into the defender to get the call.
They seem to call those on us though. He’s getting held and run into passing the ball.

Hey, it’s not just Pav. Try James, Sheldon, reef, Elliot, and AJ Brown. I guess that’s just about everybody but our Bigs. Haha Pav!

I really believe we’re gonna win a close one tonight! As long as Clayton and Sheldon don’t take any more threes.
It just amazes me, just guard the three-point line now and let them have two point shots

Nice win. Really liked that Pavs/Clayton pick and roll int he first half. Got a few easy looks off that action, and it's kind of shocking how infrequently Clayton scores rolling to to the basket given his athleticism. Too much pick & pop, and I hope we see more of that going forward.

Hats off to Pav tonight! A masterclass in crunch time with 6 straight points, setting up the huge Mitchell 3, and then hitting all his free throws. We don't win this one without his poise late.

When Pav is in the lane with a smaller or same size guy, he is fine. When the trees are in the lane protecting the rim is when he has issues.

Also got past his man and into the lane with 1:09 left, drew Clayton's defender and made a nice little pass that led to Clayton getting fouled and making two free throws. Won't show up as an assist in the box score, but he created two crunchtime baskets.

Both coaches must have been pulling their hair out with all the whistles.

Scoring over 50 in the half for the Bobcats!!

Seems to me one of those Bowling Green versus Ohio games in Athens was the biggest crowd ever in the Convo. Maybe something like almost 14,000?
The Convocation Center brought in its largest crowd on February 28, 1970, when 14,102 fans were in attendance to watch the Bobcats men's basketball team defeat the Bowling Green Falcons 77–76.[4] That year Ohio finished 20–5, winning the Mid-American Conference title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

A good crowd today at the Convo was an average crowd back during my time.

Any win at BG is big - even if it wasn't pretty.

We absolutely won that game at the FT line. We hit 30-34 to BG's 16-25.

We remain one of the best FT shooting teams in the country (if only we got there more often).
AJ Brown - 87.1%
Elmore James - 85.7%
Shereef Mitchell - 84.5%
AJ Clayton - 81.7%

How many other schools have 4 guys over 81% on the year?

Honorable mention to Shereef with 3 big 3s, and EJ4 with 3 as well (and Searls with a triple!) - on a night when Clayton/Elliott/Pavs/AJB/Sheldon combined to go 1-15 from 3.

We continue to live and die by the 3-ball and if not for Reef and EJ4 we were headed for yet another "die" night.

I agree with this. A nice comeback from his point-blank layup miss at Miami. I think there's a lot more upside to Pav. My comment on tonight's game is the old saw: A Win is A Win is A Win!

I don't remember Trent putting up 46 points at BG.

I know it wasn't his Freshman year.

And his Junior year (last Ohio season), he was nursing an injury and didn't put up 46 at BG. I believe that was one of the first games post Boals season-ending knee injury.

Did he put up 46 at BG his sophomore season? I must be having a massive brain cramp because I don't remember this.

I remember Trent putting up 40+ at home against Daniels and Floyd Miller and S-K-R.
Yep, sophomore year at Anderson Arena. 1/22/94 72-76 loss. GT had 46.
He had 46 at home that year with huge sibs crowd. I doubt he put up 46 on the road against BG the same year but if you show me a box score, I'll eat those words.
Well, it's me eating my words, apologies. After a bit deeper digging it appears there may be false information out there on the interwebs, imagine that. The BA memory banks reign supreme. I found The Post article and Gary had 27 at BG on 1/22/94:

Great find, thanks! I guess my memory must be conflating the two games after 30 years. I'm getting old!

March, 1983, Ohio visits Anderson Arena for the MAC basketball championship game. This was when the MAC tourney was not played at a neutral site (Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland, Columbus), instead having the higher seed host each game.

This was Danny Nee's 3rd season at Ohio. cc-cat and I drove up from Athens during our senior year, leaving SBH back in Athens as some sort of speculation we had of the bad luck he would eventually bring to Bobcat football and basketball teams in games played at BG.

Ohio had as a good a frontline as I've seen with Devereaux, Alexander and Hicks with Cole coming off the bench. Cole would be the best frontline player on this year's team. The Bobcats then beat Illinois St. in the NCAA tourney before losing to Kentucky. BG came in on a 7-game winning streak, including a 14-pt win over Ohio about 2 weeks earlier.
I was in Anderson for that win as a 15 year old, and then the two games in Tampa. Good times. Sounds like next time you make the BG road trip you can bring SBH along.

That was a solid MAC basketball game, both teams played hard and we finally broke one off at BG. Didn't get the 25 from Clayton, he still seems like something is off. Goes 0/7 from 3 and a few of those weren't close. He isn't a good matchup with big Marcus Johnson down in the post.

I was impressed with Johnson's athleticism and ball handling for a guy his size, would love to have him on OUr side. I wonder if we tried to land him because he seems like an obvious portal target. Played 2 seasons at Wheeling University and put up some impressive numbers. Averaged 20.3 pts and shot 43% from 3 and 86% from the line.

Bobcat Jerry,
I too remember that game as I was there and there is a pic of the crowd rushing the floor at the end. Being 6'6" my head shows up in that pic in the middle of the crowd. I still have a copy of the Post from that game. It was a great game experience. I'll never forget that game.

Yes, Final game of 69 / 70 season in packed convo...even the stairs! Beat BG and off to the Big Dance. Best Convo experience ever. Fire department must of had a fit with exits blocked.

I thought we were sunk when AJ Brown fouled out on that free throw miss late in the 2nd. Pavs really stepped up and brought us home. I'll never complain about a win at BG as rarely as those seem to happen.

Am I the only one who thought Clayton looked physically limited last night? I didn't see much bounce from him, and I thought he looked "labored" moving on the floor. I know he's playing through injury but last night was the first time I thought he looked limited.
