Who is your pick to knock the Zips off from being perfect?

Either us or Toledo; everything else should be a W for them at this point.

Best I could find was Kent State's Elite Eight team going 17-1 in MAC play in 2001-02, which is also a record for conference wins in a season.

EDIT: that only shows total undefeated regular seasons, which I guess there could have been an undefeated MAC team but lost out of conference early in the year.

EDIT TO THE EDIT:

It was Miami. Damnit. 1957-58.

I will say since a scare to start the season at BG, they have not really been scared since.

Still though...ain't gonna happen. They'll stumble.

If I'm a Zip fan...I'm actually rooting to lose at least one game before the tournament. Akron isn't getting an at-large bid obviously.

But if they win out...including MAC Tourney...that means they would have won their last 23 games (including 3 games in the MAC Tournament) to make the NCAA Tournament.

I know the conference is awful, but going 23-0 heading into the NCAA Tourney would be unreal.

Toledo was up 42-30 at halftime in Akron and blew it.

Thanks for digging the 57-58 history out of the record books for us. I would have never guessed it was that many years--guess the MAC has had "parity" for quite some time!

I had to look it up, couldn’t remember how many MAC games that ranked Buffalo team lost a few years back. Lost 2 MAC roadies by a combined 6 points. 32 win season. For some reason, I thought they made the sweet 16 that year, but they lost round 2 to Texas Tech. That team was awesome, it’s a shame they got a tough draw in the tourney.

I actually think if they go undefeated and lose in the MAC Championship, they have a real shot at an at-large. 28-6 with an 18-0 conference record...that'd be tough to ignore. Especially if Miami were the one that beat them in the championship, the NCAA couldn't resist the storyline of the 2 brother head coaches making the tourney together from the same 1 big league.

I like your optimism. I'll drink the MAC Kool-aid. BTW, what's the color of MAC Kool-aid?

It'd also be tough to include without any Quadrant 1 wins and its only Quadrant 2 win coming against Kent.

Seems like a true toss up because Akron is currently 92 in Net Rankings and still rising.

The '57-58' Miami team that went undefeated in the MAC was a talented team, led by All-American Wayne Embry. They also had south eastern Ohio represented by all-MAC forward Jim Thomas from Gallipolis. Long time high school basketball coach and athletic director at Upper Arlington, Jim Hamilton was an All-MAC point guard, and team leader.

On the other hand, when was the last time the MAC only had two 20 win teams in a season? (other than covid shortened)

I gave up when I got to 2012.

A historically down year for the MAC.
