Will be interesting to see how this turns out. There are two other threads that discuss this if you page back.

There is nothing preventing a player from having a friend set up an account on their phone app using an alias and making some money. It’s that simple.

Isn't it against NCAA Rules?
And I'm sure if Laws are broken then Criminal Charges would be brought..

It's not like this is a new thing.

There are a lot of laws that are really, really easy to break. It's not because people don't recognize that it would be easy to break laws that they choose not to break them.

Thats what always amazes me about folks who actually get caught and those that do probably have 10 other accounts under every cousins name.

You may want to check ORC 3775.13 (F)(1) and 3775.99

I read it but so what? Let’s say I live in Ryors Hall and I have a friend who lives down the hall. He bets on the games with guidance from me. As long as you don’t bet millions, who would find out?

Nobody, most likely.

But what's the upside? You have to keep the betting volume low, you don't make much, and if you are caught you go to jail, lose your scholarship, and never play competitive basketball again.

Exactly, and if you have information you get aggressive and go larger. And don’t discount the algorithms that these companies utilize. Even with small bets, over time you develop a pattern and trigger the algorithm.

Over 175 people have been busted since this all started and there are currently about 2 dozen active investigations. And the penalties are quite steep.

It's definitely wrong, but I can see how it can happen and likely will always be out there. People don't do smart things.
