AJ Braun from Wright State in the portal (6'9", 215). Averaged 12/6 for the Raiders and had 6 double-doubles. Looks like he got better and better as the year went along. Not a very good FT shooter but has improved throughout career. Doesn't play outside (only 2 career three point attempts). I believe we offered him out high school.
To quote Mel Kiper during the NFL Draft: "he fits an immediate need."
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/aj-braun-1/g... Had 16/7 against Toledo early in the year. That's gotta count for something right? Looking at the Wright State stats, it looks like he was the 2nd option when it came to post players or played the traditional big man role with Brandon Noel was the stretch 4 type.
This is one of those guys I used to think we could land, then proven wrong by how expensive accomplished size was last year.
But who knows.
Can that guy really demand a boat load of NIL cash?
Looks like he can barely jump over a phone book. Can he even dunk?
Numbers are similar to Myles Foster a year ago. We got outbid for him. That’s why I say that. But hey, maybe after this season Boals realizes we might have to overextend ourselves now.
There will be a point, and I hope we're almost there, where we can say Look... we cannot give you $100,000, but what we can give you is playing time on a winning team. If you want $3K a game to playing for a losing team. Enjoy that. I hope you invest well. If you want $1-2K a game to play for a 20+ win team and have a chance at winning the conference... welcome home.
Market yourself back home as a winner. All you're getting at Western Michigan or Illinois State is whatever you took at signing, because no one is rolling out the red carpet for 11 win teams.
I guarantee you that Javon Brown is not happy he took the money. Foster had a great year, but he would've had a great year anywhere. Instead he took it to a below .500 team.
