It will stay open 45 days.

As teams are eliminated, the list will grow exponentially.

Who picks the portal window dates? I mean its absolutely horrible what they did to both football and basketball. Is there no possible way for the window to open upon the conclusion of the season? Maybe I'm overlooking something but having the portal open during postseason play seems like an obvious mistake.

Maybe a kid who plays for a losing team can transfer to the winning team and play in the next game for the team that just beat his team. I remember in the MLB once where a player was traded during a doubleheader and played for other team in the second game. This all completely crazy. College athletics?

The NCAA? The final four is in early April.

That means 3 to 6 weeks to be in or out depending on how your season turns out.

Two less weeks than before, but 6 weeks is plenty time.

Ness is the only one on the staff with a published email address.

Is that the only option for dropping a tip to the staff if you get some advance inside info that seems reliable on a player intending to go portal?

Not the only option. The preferred and easiest option is to not try and do the coaching staff's job for them.

In any case I'm optimistic we will make a good haul from the portal.

Get a 6’8 or taller immediate contributor. No big man projects.

No excuses this time around.

Assuming we have only two scholarships remaining (IJ and the unfilled one) and everyone returns, I think we need

1) Another front court player. Between this player and Ayden Evans, at least one needs to be rotation-ready in November.

2) A rotation-ready point guard

Still think we only have 1 left, that being IJ's, since Alex Evans is coming to Athens.

Not that I understand us bringing in a 6'5 post player that nobody else recruited, but I guess it's the cost of doing business to get his brother here.

If someone hears otherwise that Alex is going to be our 493rd walk-on, then I stand corrected and we'd have 2 ships available.

Until it's confirmed otherwise, I'm assuming Alex is a walk-on.

I really hope Alex is a walk-on. Adding a 6’5 dude to current roster returning makes zero sense.

I think Shabamon is right. We have two. Which makes the JUCO outreach to both a PG and Nixon (6’7) check out; filling the needs you listed.

He's only right if Alex is indeed a walk-on. Are we all just assuming that?

Out:
Jaylin Hunter
Miles Brown
(open scholly)
IJ Ezuma (presumably)

In:
Ayden Evans
Jesse Burris
Alex Evans (unless walk-on)
Chase Boals (walk-on)

I ask again, if Evans is indeed a walk-on, and we have 2 open schollies, then how many walk-ons are we keeping since we already have Corna and Estis? Might this be the last we see of the great Quinn Corna? Can't fathom having more than 3 walk-ons.

Walk on numbers don’t matter. They’re there to practice and help make team better. The Alex Evans thing is a mystery. It’s still possible he’s getting a football scholarship. Also possible he’s coming as a walk on that the NIL is paying for (Long shot. But bigger schools are doing this).

Is anybody familiar with a 6-10 center at Ashland named Victor Searles?

He's in the portal looking for a grad transfer season (?)

Averaged around 15 & 8. Had 23 against Jason Terry's kid.

Went to St. Charles in Columbus.

Thinking MODS should pin this thread moving forward with the portal opening on the 18th. It looks like verbal commits is starting to charge for portal info if I looked at it correctly. That sucks if true.

Anyone have other sites for up to the minute portal news?

On3 and 247 have free portal things.

Sometimes the players don't show up instantly and there is no category for the ones who say "but I reserve the right to go back to my current school if needed"

And there is no category for the ones in the portal looking at NBA options.

Good to know...verbal commits was always my go-to.

Curious to hear people's thoughts on who they think we're most likely to lose to the portal.

A silver lining to the MAC being so terrible this year is that I'm not sure a 3 seed that lost in the semis of the conference tournament is going to have to fight off majors for a ton of our roster.

These are just wild guesses, but here's who I think are risks:

-- Shareef Mitchell: he ended up here because he's close with Hunter, and wouldn't surprise me if he looks for a situation where he has a higher liklihood of a tourney berth.
-- Elmore James: Hope it's not the case, but his role changed a lot post injury. Not sure how much of that was playing hurt, how much was Brown's return, but in the first 10 games he seemed like one of our best players. He kind of disappeared down the stretch.

The team's needs are very, very clear. We need a lead ball handler and we need a big. But that lead ball handler's key. When I look at the roster for next year, hard to see where the offense is going to come from reliably.

Gillespie at Belmont would be that type of ball handler. He's in the portal.

So is their leading scorer, Malik Dia but he's either going to a powerhouse program or turning pro. At least that's what people are saying.
